Maui Condo - Kaanapali or Napili?
Dad and 15-year-old son just now planning first trip to Hawaii and narrowed down to Maui, eiher Kaanapali or Napili, but can't get a good feel for the difference. Looking for condo (not luxurious necessarily) which can serve as good base for various activities and also with access to nice beach. Plan to rent car of course. Thanks for any help.

15 year old son = Ka'anapali Beach resort for sure! There are lots of places in the area of Whaler's Village that would be great for you guys.
Personally, as adults, we would go to Napali, but it is way quieter there. Here is a link...http://www.napili.com/ that might fit your bill.
And with a car, you can get everywhere you want to go.
Hope this helps...

Visited with our 14 year old son this past summer. Stayed in Kaanapali. If you want to be near activities, places to eat, that is the ticket. If you don't mind driving and you want to save $$, Napili is certainly an alternative. Lots of condos to choose from. Check out vrbo.com. If you are staying in Kaanapali, check out the Whaler for condo ideas. Also on VRBO. Another good site to visit is tripadvisor.com. Many, many posts to read and learn and lots of condo / hotel reviews to read also. Good luck. One more idea, for a 15 YO, Oahu might be a consideration.

Thanks so much for the quick responses. One more thing I forgot to mention... we are looking to find a place X-Mas week. Is it realistic to think I might have some choices or is everything decent likely to be booked? Thanks again.

Thanks again. Just made a few calls and getting told that Maui is "100 per cenbt booked" X-Mas week. Sherri - will pursue suggestion of Oahu... what section would you recommend I start looking at as an alternative?

If you plan to have a car, Maui Kai is a great option! Ask for a recently rennovated condo. It is aged, but nice and alot of amenities. On the beach.

Brk01 - Oahu is more of a "happening" place and should be great fun for your teenager. Having said that, my family has visited only the Big Island and Maui. There are many on this forum that can offer more expert advice on Oahu, but if I were planning a trip there with my son, I would definately stay in Waikiki, probably at the Outrigger on the Beach. I'm not sure about availability of condos on Oahu, but I would suggest again that you visit tripadvisor.com and read the Oahu posts to gain a lot of valuable information. Good luck.
