MAUI CAR RENTAL QUESTION

I've been to Maui many times, but never with kids. Will be going Feb 2010 with daughter, sil, & grandkids (5 & 7), so they will both be using booster seats in the car. What size vehicle should we rent? We'll have a lot of luggage, also. Would a full-size suv work? Or will we need a minivan? Thanks for your advice!

An SUV isn't needed in Maui unless you plan to do some off-roading. A minivan should do fine.

Thanks Allison. We've rented a minivan thru www.carrentalhawaii.com. They seemed to have the best prices.

Mauigirl50, are you a Costco member? If so check out the Alamo rates via Costco's travel site. I am going to Maui for 12 days in March/April. I checked the website you listed above for the same dates, and your website is over $100 more. Both using Alamo. I book through costco everytime I go to Hawaii, and I have never found a cheaper rental car elsewhere.

The only thing I have found cheaper than booking through Costco is bidding with Priceline. If you choose this route, in order to get a good price, do your homework first!

No, I'm not a Costco member, so that won't work. I don't want to bother with Priceline. We're going to keep the reservation we made - minivan from Avis for $596 for 11 days. Most other sites I looked at were over $1000.

We had six with us there (all adults) and used the minivan option. We had lots of room and switched around to vary up the conversation. With kids in the car you will probably want to move them around so you want to make sure you have good access to those booster seats.
