Maui / Big Island Cottage

Hi I am going to Hawai with my infirm mother for her last trip ever. She would like to stay in a quaint cottage or bungalo while I like hiking and a little more activites. Anyone out there who can help an overboard daughter who knows nothing about Hawaii. PS I AM TOLD Lava flows are great!

On the BI, Kilauea Lodge has a couple of small cabins that might fit the bill. There are several other similar places in Volcano Village, so you might want to do a search on this site under "volcano".

sig542, how much walking and getting around is your Mom able to do? I'm not sure VNP & Volcano Village would be the best choice if she has any problem with mobility. Do you want to stay on a beach or would you be happy away from the beach, but with beautiful views? Could you tell us a little more? I, too, love Kilauea Lodge, though the building I've stayed in requires climbing stairs but I'm sure all there accommodations would be just as nice!

One thing you should know is that each island has a windward and leeward side - the windward side is lush, tropical, waterfalls and gets a lot of rain, the leeward side is dryer and generally is more beach oriented. On both Maui and the Big Island the windward side is the east side of the Island. On the Big Island, you might try these websites: http://www.8hawaiivacationrentals.com/
or http://www.konahawaii.com/ - - I have also had good luck with www.vrbo.com, which has rentals directly from the owners. Good luck and have a wonderful time!

Sorry for not being clearer. My mom is pretty much wanting to stay in one place and is a couch patatoe.Basically she is up for going to one place and vegatating. I was hoping for some wheres Leeward on the beach in a resort but had cottages.

Thanks Jane

Try the Kona Village Resort on the Big Island, which is an all inclusive resort with individual cottages (thatched and all) on the beach.
