Maui Best Western

Has anyone stayed at the Best Western Oceanfront in on Maui (Kihei)? They have some great deals going on right now but I haven't seen it reccommended on any travel sites.

Holly read this fast. Cut and pasted from Maui revealed site:

72 units, a/c. In our previous review we called it "an overpriced dump." New owners have breathed new life into it. It's still overpriced...but it's certainly not a dump anymore. The tiny rooms (200 sq. ft.) are incredibly cramped. Tiny bathrooms, tiny sinks, even the stairway to the second floor is small. The "suites" are simply two tiny rooms combined to make one puny suite. Although the property is oceanfront, despite the name, few rooms even have good ocean views. In fact, some of their "ocean view" categories are a joke. For instance, #109 was identified as an "ocean view" suite. As far as we could see, to get our view we had to look through two louvers and on through the narrow vertical space between two obstructing buildings just to see a thin strip of ocean.

Interestingly, though the name says it's an "oceanfront inn," the beach shown on their brochure isn't the beach in front of the resort. (The beach they picture is Secret Cove...6 miles away.) Overall, in our opinion, we can't think of a worse accommodation value in South Maui, so they are the winner of our "You Gotta Be Kidding" award. Rates are $159-$199. Suites are $249-$429.

WOW! I can't thank you enough for posting that! No wonder it isn't written about anywhere. My friend and I are trying to stay in that area for under $100 a night. Is that even possible? Any place you might reccommend? I've done a lot of research and bargain hotels seem to be hard to come by.
Still can't believe that review of the Best Western....

If you can, stop by the bookstore and get the Maui Revealed Book. In it is the password that will get you the web reviews of most of the hotels on the island. If you only want to see aerial views of the resorts you can look for free on www.wizardpub.com/ Click on the Maui Revealed and then on the aerial views. Make sure you click on the aerial views only, otherwise you'll need the pass word. The book will also be a great source of other info you'll want to have when you take your trip.

One last thing Holly, if you are no longer interested in the Best Western but do want more info from this forum post a new question asking for budget accomodations in Maui. Make sure you include any pertinent information like how much you'd like to pay, what you expect to get for your money and the location(s) you prefer. You'll get more info that way. Good luck.
