Maui Bed and Breakfast

Hey everyone! We're going to Kaanapali for 5 nights, and will probably go in September, but I am thinking of tacking on two or three additional days at the beginning, to stay on the other side of the island. I'd like to do some horseback riding near Makawao and also catch a polo game. So, my question is, can anyone recommend a hotel or good bed & breakfast near Makawao or anyplace near there?

I spent my childhood summers in Maui, but we always stayed near Napili, but I have never stayed on the other side at all.

Thanks!

I guess nobody has ever stayed upcountry or near Kahului. ((&))

hey cat~ heck I had to look at a map -haha- but it look like a lovely part of the island.

I've only been on Maui once for a family reunion trip and we were in Lahaina. It was my first time to Hawaii and I was completely surprised how much I liked it there (I had been sporting many incorrect assumptions and stereotypes about the islands).

Maybe you could shack up with Oprah. It is beautiful country. But I have no first hand recommendations.

I loved that part of Maui but we didn't stay there. If you Google "Bed and Breakfast Makawao" there are several that get really good reviews.

Thanks, AustinTraveler. That is what I've done. I was hoping someone might have some firsthand experience but I guess not.

If I had Oprah's number, I'd call her right up!

Suze, Kaanapali and Lahaina are just about my favorite place to go and I get antsy when it's been too long, and it has been way too long! I can't wait! This is literally our first relaxing vacation together ever!

That's fantastic! Have a wonderful time. Too bad you have to wait until September :-)

I know, but it does get crowded when school is out. Mr. Kat was on Kauai in September when Hurricane Iniki hit, so he's a little worried but I think it will be lovely!

Chef David Paul once had a lovely home for rent upcountry. Not sure if it's still in the rental market.

I just bookmarked this place if you are looking for seclusion. Self catered.

I just showed the property to my husband and he said book it. I should know not to help advertise a place on my wish list! We could easily spend a week there, strolling down the hill for bfasts and lunches at Mamas and HGS and surf watching, exploring upcountry at sunrise and sunset, and cooking and chilling. Spend some time at the lavender and dairy farm. Make a goat cheese salad for dinner And maybe making it around the bend to Hana. Our week would be full, with no big tourism.. Been there and love it, but as we age we kinda like these secluded places with all the comforts of home.

That is lovely! Thanks! I think we are looking for more of a bed and breakfast, since it will just be for two nights. I don't want to spend it shopping and cooking, really. But if we were going to be there for a week or so, I'd grab it!
