Maui and snorkeling

Going to Maui (Kihei and Kahana) in Sept. and need some info on snorkeling sites and boat trips to do same. Thanks

Hi, Pip! You can take a boat trip (offered through many different companies) out to Molokini, a tiny island just west of Maui, and see all sorts of great things(we've done it and had a great time). But the problem is that it's crowded, not to mention expensive. You can see just about the same things from shore in places like Black Rock (next to the Sheraton) and one place south of Wailea--the name escapes me at the moment. And there are any number of other great spots, too--just ask at a dive shop about snorkeling from shore. And hey, we're going to be in Kihei in September too--maybe we'll meet! Enjoy your trip, and don't miss the sunrise at Haleakala!
The Molokini trip is fun. Kapalua Bay is also a great spot. It's just a few minutes past Kahana and is beautiful.

Black Rock is a great place for snorkeling on Maui. Easy access, many beautiful fish and sea turtles!

Pip,

You've probably seen people mention the Maui Revealed book on this site under other topics. It has GREAT information on all the snorkeling sites on Maui, with quite a few photos of different places. The authors also recommend different companies for trips, and i've found them to be right on the money in terms of quality providers. Overall, I thought the book was quite helpful.

Have a great trip!
