maui and kaui condos
Hi, I'm posting this again with more specifics.

We are traveling to Maui/Kauai for the 1st time in Sept with our 1 1/2 y.o. We are planning about 10 days overall, probably a 6 (Maui)/4 (Kauai) split. For Maui we would like a condo (looking for kitchen and W/D, A/C???--it's been recommended since we may be in the room during naptime). I had originally booked a place in Napili but then heard it may be better to stay more central to decrease driving time for our son. He's a good traveler but too many consecutive days of long drives in a car takes a toll. Keihi was suggested for a central location but I've heard some negative things after reading through the forum. It looks like there are more sites a child may find interesting in the isthmus or West Maui area but I know we will want to visit Haleakala and depending on how the snorkeling trips are set up, maybe that. I would love to drive to Hana but we'll have to see how it goes.

For Kauai, I am really interested in North Shore area. There is an available B&B in Kapaa that is sounded nice & is by Lydgate Park but I think I was hoping for a bit more north. How far of a drive is it to Hanalai/Ke'e area?

Any suggestions would be helpful (except leaving our son at home, that's not an option). I would like to stay around the $100/day price range (give or take). Thank you!!!!!!
Stacie, check out www.wizardpub.com under Kauai, they have aerial pictures of hotels and condos. I would say that Sealodge in Princeville may be in your price range. You can also find some listings directly from owners at www.vrbo.com.

Go online and check out condos. Kapaa is a good 30 minutes from the North Shore unless you are coming from the West Coast I think it is entirely to far to travel to have to get in a car every day for the dramatic sites that lie on the West and North shores.

http://www.hanaleihouse-kauai.com/information.html scroll to the bottom for some properties.

If you go online Century and Hanalei North Shore properties seems to have lowend deals for Princeville and Hanalei

Stacie

Pali Ke Kua has some wonderful condos on the North Shore and some even have tremendous views of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai. I think it may be a bit difficult to find something on either island for $100/day with taxes and sometimes cleaning charges are added. As far as Kapaa, it is on the east side of Kauai, and, as noted, is at least a half hour's drive just to the North Shore and another 20 minutes or so to Kee at the end of the island. There are an incredible number of condos in the Princeville area (North Shore). Do a search for Princeville condos. It's a beautiful area, has great walking/jogging paths throughout Princeville and its many golf courses not to mention the lovely views. There are a good number of restaurants as well as the many offerings you will find in Hanalei - about a ten minute drive. By the way, you will not need A/C if you stay on Kauai's North Shore - not that it is cold, just cooler than the South shore.

In Maui, I personally would not stay in Kihei. There are some great condos in the Wailea area, but would not think you could find for $100/night. Try the Napili or Kahana area of Maui, which is near Kapalua for some better deals on condos. You will need A/C in the condos on Maui and will have no trouble finding them. Good luck.

Well, we've finally booked our reservations and are set to go. We ended up staying in Ka'anapali x 7 nts, which was not my 1st choice but we got a good package deal so I couldn't pass it up. We then fly to Kaui and are at the Hanalei Bay Resort (a privately owned condo that was recommended). The places may or may not be what we pick next time but I think we'll have fun none-the-less. Since we've never been before & we know we'll be driving South to Haleakala and possibly Hana (we'll have to see how well our son is doing by then in a car), we decided Ka'anapali would save a little time and we can still head up to Napili or Kapalua for snorkeling. The next question is, to anyone who has been to either island (especially Maui since we are there for a week) with a 1-2 y.o., any suggestions on things to do???? Are the boat that take you to Moloki Crater big enough for him to walk around on so we can trade off who is snorkeling? I have heard of some people putting there kids in a kiddie raft (with them holding on) so they can both be out. Is the water really that calm? Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions.
