Maui advice
I had posted this for Here today gone 2 Maui but I haven't gotten a reply yet so hoping there are other locals or lucky experts that can give me some input.
My husband and I went to Maui for the first time in March and loved it. We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani which was beautiful and we loved the area. We didn't think we would be going back any time soon but my parents just rented a 2 bd/2 ba condo in Polynesian Shores for February 2006 so we decided to join them. We booked our air to stay for 10 nights. We did the Road to Hana last time but are considering doing it again and maybe staying a night or two at the Hotel Hana Maui. Do you think it is worth it? or do you have any other ideas about somewhere to go for a couple of nights? We thought we could go back to the Wailea area also. Are you familiar with Polynesian Shores? What do you think the weather will be like for that area in February? We will rent a car; but can you walk into town from there? I am having a hard time picturing where it is. The address says Lahaina but on the map it looks more like Kapalua. Thanks for any advice! |
Hi
My husband and I drove the road to Hana last fall and stayed the night at the Hotel Hana Maui. It was a true relaxing, peacful, expereince. The hotel is really a scattering of deluxe cottages that have a real hawaii homey feel to them. There is no TV or radio in the cottages but there is a phone. The bathroom is HUGE with a soaking tub and walk in shower :-) The deck are huge as well. If you truely want to get a way from it all I highly recommend it. WE did not want to leave after only one night. I do have a trip report and pictures so if you want to see the pictures of the Hotel Hana Maui email me at [email protected]. |
Thanks. I would love to see your pictures. I will send you an email.

Poly Shores is in the "strip" of small condo properties just south of Kahana and maybe three or four miles north of Kaanapali. I haven't actually stayed there tho' have stayed twice at Noelani just down the street.
See http://www.wizardpub.com/maui/mauaerials.html in general, and http://www.wizardpub.com/maui/mrpolyshores.html in particular. It is not the Fairmont !! Should be a great spot for seeing the whales too. There's places to eat around there as well as places to buy ingredients for making great meals yourself example Maui Fish Market and the Okazuya Deli, both only a mile or so away. Also http://www.javajazz.net/menu.htm#APPETIZERS Reilly's Steakhouse and Roy's next to each other in Kahana Gateway close by. It'll be great :) |
Thanks! How is the Roy's on Maui? We love the one in Chicago (food, service and atmosphere). We went to the one on the Big Island and we were disappointed. The food and service were good (not great) but there was no atmosphere. I expected more since it was in Hawaii. We did decide to book 2 nights in Hana. Any suggestions on what to do? We will definetly spend some time at the pool and/or beach.

I'm sure the Hana Maui is wonderful. The oceanside bungalows look great.
We stayed at Ekena and loved it. For an extended stay, you can save a lot by cooking your own meals. http://www.vrbo.com/15138 Otis |
