Maui activity/restaurant reservations before you go or after you get there?

We are going to Maui June 23 and have reservations for the Old Lahaina Luau. Do I need to make golf, restaurant reservations and other activity ressies before we go? Is it safe to wait and hope we can get our times a day or two ahead? What do most people do?

We have found a number of online activity discounts and try to reserve in advance as much as possible, you can find some recommendations by (re)searching the Hawaii section on this forum.

Guidebook &quot;Maui Revealed&quot; (<font color="blue">www.wizardpub.com/maui/maui.html</font>)also is good for a pricing guideline for activities and does contain restaurant info.

For Maui we have used Tom Barefoot's cashback tours for saving $)on some activities, however if you choose to wait until you arrive simply take a stroll down Front Street in Lahaina and the activity brokers will be all over you!#o</font></font></font></font></font></font>

I would suggest making reservations for golf tee times as soon as possible (now, before you go), as the best times seem to book up quickly.

We are going to Maui 6/18 -7/2 and will be staying at the Kea Lani our first week. Do we need to make reservations at Nicks ahead of time or can we make them when we get there? lisa

I would try and make reservations for as many things as you can before you go. One because then it is one less thing that you need to worry about and two because you can find good discounts if you try to book them ahead of time. I know that hotels can sometimes offer discount but it is often better to use travel websites. I know you can buy activies through places like orbitz at a discount. They just changed their website so it should be easy for you to look them up. I would try their site. I hope that helps. I wish that I was going to Hawaii sometime soon!

I made all my activity reservations before we went to Maui, just in case. I wanted to get my top choice for snorkel tours, etc. I also used Tom's Barefoot and was very satisfied. And I also recommend Maui Revealed. It's a must-have in Maui.

Typically, what are the cancellation policies if you get there and change your mind?

Except once when I went at Christmas (very busy) I have never had a problem doing pretty much what I wanted when I wanted by waiting until I got there.

The time we went at Christmas was very much an exception and several of the luaus and cruises were booked BI/Kona wasn't a problem). But, I don't play golf so I don't know much about that.

I know people will make fun of me but I made my dinner reservations 2 weeks before my trip to Maui. I decided to change a dining place on the &quot;day of&quot; and found that the earliest open reservations were for 8:30pm! (too late for us) This is mainly for nice places (David Pauls, Plantation House, etc)...

I made dinner reservations for Maui about 6 weeks ahead of time. We are going on July 5th. I didn't want to chance anything, as it is our honeymoon and want the best times possible (for sunset).

It never hurts to book ahead!

Good luck.

We went the week of July 4th last year and the only thing we scheduled in advance were the Old Lahaina Luau and dinner at Mama's Fish House. We scheduled our excursions through our hotel the first day we were there which worked out fine. The rest of the restaurants we had no problem getting into.
