HI,

I am not much of a snorkeler, but would like to see the underwater life. I have seen the ads for the two underwater subs and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on which is the better of the two.
We will be doing some snorkeling and I was wondering where the best spots were located. I would prefer little or no wave action and not very deep water. Thanks for your help.

Maui Dive Shop gave us a decent small snorkel guide with our rental. We liked Ulua Beach in Wailea and also liked Kapalua Bay for beginner snorkeling. Go early if you're not staying there, beach access parking can be tight#o.
Maui Ocean Center also worth a visit for explaining more about what you see snorkeling.:S-

My husband and I were on Maui a couple of weeks ago, and we were also beginning snorkelers. We snorkeled at Black Rock on Kannapali Beach twice, Kapalua Beach, Honolua Bay, and we took a snorkel cruise to Molokini and Lanai. I would recommend all of the places -- we loved it!

Hi, As I have said in the past on the subject of underwater subs, AVOID them at all costs. Unless you have a very small child that might enjoy it, its a total waste of money. Go to the Maui Ocean Center and you will see and learn so much more. We took our family(3 teenage/young adult children) in Feb. and we all were very disappointed. We saw more fish standing with our feet in the water on the beach at Black Rock!!! And that was during whale season and not a whale in site the whole time on the sub! Big money for no fun. Go snorkelling to Molokini or Lanai for sure. Spend your money there, its well worth it. Any of the dive shops can direct you to the closest great beach to snorkel at, there are a lot to choose from. Black Rock is one of our favorites. Aloha

I have snorkeled many areas in Maui and I am afraid I can't tell you exactly the name of my favorite place. Can anyone HELP? If you are driving north from Kaanapali towards Kapalua on one of the curves we just noticed many cars parked on the road. We parked, and took a hike through the most beautiful jungle down to a quiet cove. There were about 50 ppl there, and the water was shallow and absolutely beautiful. Many colorful fish and some coral! I am pretty sure it was much closer to Kapalua than Kaanapali.

I took a trip to Molokini and only saw three fish. For me, it was a waste of time.

Ckubiak - Black Rock is a good location for beginners, but can get crowded. Also try Napili Bay - very little surf, beautiful beach and lots of fish.
Wtggirl- If you were north of Kapalua, you were probably at Honoloa Bay.

Thanks so much for the info. I will stay away from the subs. I can not wait til March 2005.
