Maui accommodations

need your help again Fodorites. you came through for me for Europe now I am looking for accommodations preferably in Wailea for my family of 5 (all adults). Any recommendations less expensive than the Grand Wailea Resort??
Thanks

Not in Wailea, but very convenient location is Puamana. I stayed there with friends this May and was very impressed. It is an older complex, one or two level units, not a high rise. It is gated and there are gorgeous grounds for walking around safely. I love a walk before the day really gets going and another at sunset and this was perfect. They have three pools, one of which is adults only. A great deal less expensive than Grand Wailea and it has a full kitchen. Highly recommended.

The Renaissance Wailea, the Outrigger Wailea, and the Maui Prince are all in the Wailea area for a more moderate price than the BIG THREE (Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, and Kea Lani). Go to Tripadvisor to read the reviews or to wizardpub.com to look at aerial views. The Big Island Revealed book has reviews on the resorts.

Hi Christa! The Outrigger Palms at Wailea, which is a 15 min walk to beach and also has its own pool, has one and two bedroom condos. Their web rates are less than $200/night for a garden-view two bedroom condo. The condos have washer/dryer inside too.
Here's a link:
http://outrigger.com/hotels_detail.aspx?hotel=25

They MAY take auto club or Entertainment card discounts--call toll free number to check (1-800-outrigger).

Another possibility is the check vrbo.com under maui/wailea and see about condos being rented directly from owners.

Good luck!

Puamana is a townhouse community just at the south edge of Lahaina. I also love this place. You can walk into Lahaina, if you want, and not have to worry about finding parking. The only drawback is that the beach isn't good for swimming, although, there is a beach park right next door where a lot of locals seem to swim & surf.
