Maswick Lodge, Grand Canyon
Our travel agent has booked us in here for 2 nights in September - any comments please?

Hi Carole, I stayed at Maswick Lodge in May 2000 and found it to be clean and quiet. We had a double room and it was a decent 'motel' type of room........no complaints from us!
yo do know it is a quarter mile to the Rim top...the Thunderbird,Kachina, and El tovar at at the Rim proper...T & K are about $119 and the El more expensive...also the Bright Angel is on the Rim too and cheaper...I`d rather stay in one of them...just my opinion....

I stayed there last year - it was fine, clean, but rustic. didn't eat there though as it's just a cafeteria. None of the hotels at the Grand Canyon are upscale. None have AC. Bright Angel lodge and El Tovar have rooms with views of canyon. Bright ANgel lodge has best restaurant. it's not a long walk to canyon from Maswick, and they do offer free shuttle service all around the park.

Thanks for your replies - so long as it's clean and not too far from the Rim it should be OK.

We stayed there last May. My only objection is that it was hot at the canyon and we had to keep the doors open late into the evening to cool our room off.

Our building was close to the bus stop for the shuttle system. We took the bus along the West Rim Drive which is fun because you can get off at any stop goig out and get back on later. We walked between many of the stops so we could have unjostled views of the canyon.
I remember stopping and just starring through my binoculars with no one around for quite a few minutes.
There are several places like that along the rim where you can find quiet places to enjoy the canyon.
