Marths's Vineyard and Nantucket

Hi All

We are visiting Boston, Cape Cod (Truro) and the islands in early September for 2 weeks. My question is do you think it's a good idea to visit both Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket or would we be better staying in another location on Cape Cod. We both like cycling, walking and sight seeing.

Thanks for your help

Don't go to both islands. Nantucket is the better of the two. The biking is pleasant on either island. I'm not a fan of the cape.

I think you have enough time to see both islands. I would pick going to both over staying at another location on the Cape. By staying in Truro you'll be close enough to visit PTown and Chatham.

I think you'll find that everyone has a preference re: MV or Nantucket. I really like the Vineyard myself but it's impossible to say which one you'll prefer unless you visit.

I think I will take your advice wyatt92 and visit both islands. Thanks for your help

Have a great time! I'm heading to the Vineyard Thursday and can't wait!

Take my Mississippi advice and spend more time on Nantucket. It's much more appealing to me than MV. I found Nantucket to have some outstanding restaurants and the town is nice also. I liked CC also and enjoyed by stay at Chatham Bars Inn. The Wauwinet is outstanding on Nantucket Island. Good luck.

I haven't been to MV, but I am in love with Nantucket. Nothing wrong with doing maybe 5 days Boston, 4 MV, and 5 Nantucket. I consider the ferry rides part of the fun of visiting these places so I don't think you could go wrong either way.

Sorry, forgot that you mentioned Truro. In that case, maybe just MV or Nantucket, but just depends how much you dislike packing and unpacking. I don't mind packing light, and flitting around a bit! :)

The Vineyard is more varied, IMO. You have Edgartown for the chi-chi shopping and restaurant scene, then Oak Bluffs for honky-tonk,then the other small towns. The western end has rolling hills and distant views of water and islands.

Nantucket is smaller, has a haunting coast, no hills to speak of. Nantucket town is a gem -- though it may be too charming for some (the harbor front is particularly overdone).

I think they're both worth a visit. Nantucket used to be a hard day trip, but the fast ferry from Hyannis had changed that.
