Martha's Vineyard / Boston / Cape in July
 

I am looking for reccomendations on MV Boston and the cape this July. I am taking my wife there for her 50th this year. Would like to get some expesure to each of the areas. We are looking for ideas for accomodations, restaurants, transportation activities and entertainment. Any help is appreciated.

It's in mid-Cape. Look for a place to stay in that area, around Brewster.

You can take a ferry over to MV if you so desire.

Nice place to visit for a day trip or more.

Provincetown is always a kick.

Where are you coming from and will you have a car?

What do you want to do in these places? Museums? History? Beaches? Sports to watch? Sports to participate in?

Boston is a good sized city in which you will not really need a car.

The Vineyard can be reached by air or a boat and in July will have shuttles/busses or taxis to take you around the island. Getting a car over in July is expensive and some time slots will already be fully booked.

The Cape can be reached by ferry or bus from Boston, but most people would want a car there to explore.

What general price range are you comfortable with for accommodations and food?

As emalloy says, don't rent a car until you leave Boston.
You can even take the bus from Boston to Hyannis and rent a car at the bus station or at the airport, about a two minute cab drive away. Then you can return the car at the airport when you leave, though the bus from Hyannis goes to Logan and stops at all the terminals.

And how long do you have for the trip, including arrival and departure?

And is this 50th birthday or 50th anniversary?

The last discusses in part public transportation use in Cape Cod, which is better then some realize. Note well that there are now also Cape Cod Regional Transit buses that go to Sandwich.

We will be flying in and plan on spending 2 -3 days in Boston and 4-5 days around the Cape / MV. We will hit some historical sites in Boston but would like a less active / relaxing spot for the Cape. Looking for local eats, rent some bikes and beaches.

I recommend staying in the outer/lower cape area where the National Seashore is located, which is beautiful & IMO, the prettiest part of the Cape. Towns to consider staying in: Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro & Provincetown. Wellfleet is one of my favorite Cape towns; lovely beaches, art galleries, great restaurants. We like Mayo Beach, which is small, but pretty & quiet. We love to have lunch at the Bookstore Restaurant directly across the street from Mayo Beach. Like to sit outside at Winslow Tavern in Wellfleet center for a drink. Had dinner last year at Mac's Shack for the first time & love their food. They have nice outdoor bar, with outdoor dining & inside dining. Also like the Wicked Oyster for breakfast.
