Martha's Vineyard

I am planning to spend 4 days in MV this summer. I have never been there. I am flying in. What town should I stay in and where are names of good B&Bs or hotels?

It depends if you want peace and quiet or you want to be able to walk or bike ride to get coffee, etc...
Edgartown is the biggest town there. Great place and probably the most hotels and B&B's. Then Vineyard Haven which is very cute and has some nice boutiques, bookstore, ice cream shops. Oak Bluffs is next in size and is very quaint. I think Edgartown and Oak Bluffs are the only towns that serve alcohol, but the others you can bring your own to most restaraunts. I haven't been there in a while and could be totally wrong! But if you are looking for nightlife keep that in mind. The rest of the island is called "up island" and is pretty quite, but beautiful and worth seeing. There is a restaurant up island called The Beach Plum Inn (an Inn too!) Great to watch the sun set and have a nice meal. There are plenty of taxis on the island if you are not renting a car. I wish I could remember the name of the B&B I stayed in for my honeymoon, but I don't know if it exists anymore. It was in Vineyard Haven. I'm renting a house in Edgartown for a week in June. It's the only town I never spent that much time in. I can answer more questions in the middle of June if you can wait!

The house I stayed in was in Katama which is part of Edgartown. Great location (if you have a car or bike.) It's near South Beach and still close enough to Edgartown (shops and restaurants.)
A great place we went for dinner is Slice of Life in Oak Bluffs. Good food and waitstaff.
Also, as I said before about the Beach Plum Inn-great meal. Expensive and you need reservations.

Two great restaurants in Edgartown are David Ryan's Cafe. Really good homemade potato chips and lobster rolls. Lively bar scene, especially in the evening. Upstairs is Richelle's Place, a more upscale restaurant and Martini Bar. My favorite appetizer is soft shell crabs on a bed of heirloom tomatotes, wonderful!!

Don't know if you are still checking this posting, you haven't been back in awhile, but here is a thread I gave a lot of info on martha's vineyard on that might help you, although I am assuming by now you have your reservations, it has lots of info on things to do
