Marriotts/Courtyards in NYC
 

Not considering price, if you had your pick of any Marriott or Courtyard in NYC, which one would you chose? Plans are allover the city & planning on subway, maybe occasional cab.

We've stayed at the Marriott Courtyard East (Lexington between 52nd and 53rd I think) and would definitely stay there again. It's not fancy, but the rooms are huge by Manhattan standards (most include either a King and sofabed, or two queens and sofabed), and I love the location (subway downstairs, Duane Reade downtairs, food in the neighborhood, walking distance to a lot of places). We've also stayed at the Marriott Marquis, Renaissance Times Square and Residence Inn Times Square, and would pick the Courtyard East over all those for another stay, although I did love the location of the Residence Inn.

I think either the Times Square South or the Fifth Avenue has the most central location, but I also like the one on Lexington. The one on the Upper East Side has the worst location. I'm so-so on the one downtown on Varick.

We've stayed at the Marriott Marquis a couple of times, and loved it when we were on the concierge floor. Very nice big room with floor to ceiling window and great breakfast and cocktail hour noshes and drinks.

We were there again a couple of years ago, but couldn't snag that floor and the trip wasn't nearly as nice.

I've stayed at the Marquis in Times Square a couple of times and really liked it. The Renaissnace there was ok, but would stay at the Marquis over Renaissance.

I also stayed at the Marriott East Side a few times. It's ok as well. Probably the one I like best would be the Marquis. If you can get a room that overlooks Times Square, it's really something. And the sushi restaurant there, although in a hotel has fantastic sushi.

Note that the Marriott Eastside is different from the Courtyard Midtown East.

Thanks. The Marquis is an option, though it's the size of the hotel that's questioning; not sure how I feel about 2000 rooms. Then again, in the future I doubt I would ever stay in the heart of Times Sq. The Courtyard Times Sq South and the newish Soho one look appealing.

I was writing only about the Courtyards, which I prefer over the Marriotts. But the Renaissance in Times Square is quite nice and has a really good location (better to me than the Marriott Marquis since it's not quite in the middle of the mob scene).

I think it's more about who's traveling. None of the options are bad (although I agree upper east side is not convenient for most people). The Courtyard Midtown East has some rooms with 2 queen beds and a sofabed if you're a family. Otherwise, the others just have 2 doubles. The Residence Inn has free breakfast and a kitchen and a great location (near Courtyard TS South). The Fairfield Inn Fifth ave. is also a great option with free b/f. If you don't want to be in midtown, the Soho location is good.

I'm traveling with a friend, so 2 double beds. I am getting a friends and family rate, so that's why I was curious to know which ones were preferred since I have read that some of them are quite dated. I just want clean and convenient to get around.

Sorry, but that is incorrect. <u>All</u> the rooms at the Courtyard Midtown East are either King/sofabed, or 2Q/sofabed.

You misunderstood my post. My intention was to communicate the other Courtyard <i>hotels</i> in Manhattan would only have 2 double beds as their largest occupancy option.

I think your instincts are correct absolutkz. If you don't want the bigness of the M. Marquis (good sized rooms, great views, floor to celing windows) go for Courtyard Times Square South if you want to be in midtown or Soho if you prefer being downtown.

I've stayed at the Residence Inn Times Square - the location was convenient in terms of access to the subway. There was a pleasant area on the 3rd floor where they served breakfast and where there were plenty of sofas and chairs where you could relax and regroup during the day. The room had a king bed and sofa bed; decent size for NYC. Service was very good.

Friends have stayed at the Courtyard Times Square which is about a block and a half from the RI, so same as far as convenience. They were happy with their stay there ("clean, comfortable, and convenient" was their description).

Thanks for the input. I'll know more within a week; hoping there's a price difference to help with the choice.

The Residence Inn doesn't have rooms with 2 beds so that won't work for you. Otherwise it would have been a good option.

Actually, the RI has rooms with 2 double beds.
