I just booked the Palm Desert Marriott Desert Spring Villas for a weekend in April. I was shocked to find that check-in is at 4:00 p.m. and check out is at 10:00 a.m. C'mon, isn't this a little rediculous? Especially at $482.00 per villa per night. Am I the only one who feels this way? (note: I did request an early check-in, but I would everyone would do the same)

No - this is typical for resort villas. And they usualy will let one or two folks check in early - but cleaning villas takes a ot longer than just one room (both due to the larger size and the fact than may people "move in" and leave all sorts of stuff behind to be dealt with).

I have never heard of such an early check-out time, 4:00 is pretty standard for check-in. We were just invited to a Marriott Timeshare at the Timber Lodge in South Lake Tahoe, 3 nights for $225 which we will most likely take advantage of. This will be the first time we have stayed at a Marriott property but the location is great, right by Heavenly and the casinos and we also get a $100 certificate to spend at the resort or casinos.

The majority of places we stay have been very good about giving us a 30-60 minute margin on check-out times. Good luck! ***kim***

You will find check out time varies from resort to resort. This is not just with Marriott, but with many resorts. Like the above post stated, this is not all that uncommon.

Imagine ***kim's*** shock when she finds out that the Marriott Timber Lodge has a 10:00am check out. My guess is all Marriott Timeshare places have the same check in/out times.

In December, we didn't have any problem remaining in our Marriott timeshare room at adjacent Shadow Ridge for another hour. Arranged with front desk by simple phone call. They just want to know that you are really leaving that day.

Four pm is standard, but arriving at 3pm will often get you a room.

April is very busy so they may be a little tighter if fully booked.

Most weekly rentals here have the 10AM checkout (some have 9AM) and 4PM check in.

We have never had a difficult time getting an early check-in or a late check-out. Before you go, call and request the early check-in. Then, the day before you are ready to leave, call and request the late check-out; be prepared to give them the time you want to leave.

We have stayed in lots of timeshares, Marriott included and most all have 10 a.m. check out times.

Some hotels seem to forget they are in the HOSPITALITY business.

If everybody is checked out at 10:00 a.m. they should have a cleaning staff large enough to offer early (1:00 p.m., for instance) check-in for most of those who request it.

I have never had a problem checking into a "good" hotel early while traveling in Europe.

I hate late check-ins when we have been flying for hours and hours but have gotten used to it. Generally you can leave your luggage somewhere and get out and start your vacation..which sort of helps.

kimamom, I saw that you were asking about the Timeshare offer you got for Tahoe on Frommers.
I hope I was helpful, I knew someone in that business back in NY and it was all a huge rip-off for people looking for freebies.
You really don't get anything for free these days, sadly. But then, I guess it is work to sit through a 3 hour long sales pitch..

Happytrails - not true with the Paris Ritz. Their rooms aren't always ready when you want them.

***Kimamom*** - we usually get hours extended for our checkout times. When you travel via Google, your times are what you make them but when you actually check into a hotel to experience the real check in and check out times, you'll find it varies.

And speaking of Paris hotels, flights from NY usually arrive very early in the am at CDG and we have never once, in all the years we have gone to Paris, had a room be ready, in any of the hotels or the apt we rented.
Simply because , unless it is a Holiday Inn Express somewhere in Portland lol, the hotels are full, someone is still in the room and you have to wait your turn.
As long as a hotel will safely keep my luggage, it has never been that big a deal, we always go for walks and have breakfast anyway..

I've been to the South Lake Tahoe Marriott Timber Lodge but wouldn't do it for the time share presentation. My sis took advantage of the cheapie price and had to listen to the presentation. She said it wasn't bad.

The Timber Lodge is on the east side of the gondola and the Marriott Grand, which is way nicer than the nice Timber Lodge, is on the west side of the gondola. Both are nicely located in the new village area.

I think anyone who arrives at a hotel early and waits around for the check-in time without inquiring about an early check-in should not travel beyond, say, Google.

The Marriott Desert Springs villas are gorgeous-they'll be worth the wait; have lunch at the hotel pool while you wait or take the boat ride and check out the various restaurants. Or go to El Paseo and have lunch at Cafe Beaux Arts and just relax.
