Marriott Rewards
Are you aware that one is not entitled to receive Marriott (and perhaps others) points or rewards (like the recent three night benefit offer) if you book thru Expedia or one of the other internet travel reservation programs. No one told us of this until we discovered we were not given credit for a recent stay.

I use Expedia all the time and always get points at Marriott and Renaissance properties. Is this a brand new policy?

Hi,

I think ( certainly on Hilton HHonors but probably to Marriott Rewards) that if you book on expedia using the "Special rare" or "E rate" then you are not supposed to earn points or miles for that stay but I have herad of some people getting those so if you do earln points on those rates.

Standard expedia rates ( with no special comments) should be fine for earning points.

Regards
TBS

Marriott definitely confirmed the fact that no points are available if you book through the internet with Expedia or a similar service.

Joe-Change programs. We just returned from NYC and stayed at The W Tuscany that we booked through Quikbook.
We were given credit on our Starwood Account(Sheraton, Four Points, W, etc)
at the rate of 3 points/dollar spent.

Expedia is basically just a travel agency--why should that make a difference, unless you are booked using a specially negotiated Expedia discount rate (the non refundable kind). Highly discounted rates, and especially Priceline/Hotwire reservations usually note that do not accrue points/miles/etc. Even that is variable.
Whenever I have a loyalty program at a hotel that I get through Priceline, I always ask the desk clerk if they can put my account number on the record. Of course it depends on the hotel chain, sometimes the individual hotel or clerk, but I have been getting points for about 3 out of every 4 hotel stays

Either pay the hotel's price (even if discounted) and get points or buy cheap off priceline and forgo points. You can't have your cake and eat it to. Totally understandable policy.

I just booked a 2 night stay at a Marriott through their web site for next month. It was $71 a night. I just checked with Expedia, and the cheapest they had for the same time and place was $79.
