Marriott on Coronado
 

Can anyone who stayed in this hotel comment on it - how does it compare to the del?

Marriott is fine but the Del is the better choice of the 2. Del has a beach and is walking distance of the DT Coronado area. Marriott is on the bay and has turtles and birds in it's atrium (love looking at them) but the Del is more luxurious. The Del is a SD landmark, mostly everyone has stayed there from Presidents to Marilyn Monroe.

Those two are completely different properties:
The Del is a historic Grand Hotel right on the beach on the Ocean side of Coronado island. It is a splendid place with lots of history. The rooms vary in size- and some people feel the rates are too high for what they offer on rooms. But again, this is a historic place that actually is a national landmark plus, it's in a prime location on one of SD's most beautiful beaches and that's what you pay for.
The Marriott is a former Le Meridien and is of contemporary architecture. it is located on the opposite end of Coronado on the bayside overlooking downtown. I have stayed only at the Del, but have heard from people who stayed at the Marriott and liked it. It is just something completely different.
BTW you already got a first hand experience report from Maggi who was very happy with her stay at the Marriott on your former post on Coronado. If you want to retrieve your former posts, please just click on your screen name on any of your posts, or click on it in the second row from the top of this page. The word "welcome" is right next to it on the left (right on the left?- you know what I mean :-) )!

Thank you - I know the Del is nicer but I'm concerned about the rooms - i don'treally like old historic rooms.

You are really asking the same questions too often, and then the "thread" gets spread all over the place. After you post a question, you should read the answers and post a reply to the same one if you want to refine the responses.

If you cannot find your posts, it is because they drop down the list as others are added and yours may be VERY far down.

This is the polite way and other posters will respect you and your inquiries much more if you follow "the rules".

If you are concerned about the older rooms at the Del, but in general would prefer the Del for its location you could make reservations for the Del's Ocean Towers annex, which is a modern complement to the Del. It is a little bit more generic, but might suit your needs better.

Along with what hsv wrote, I have stayed in the new tower a few times. The new building is sometimes less expensive because most prefer the original building. The rooms are alot bigger but I still like the feel of the historic building. Also, as you may have already read the weekend brunch is great.
