Marriott now changes ALL bed coverings after each guest!

Yes, even the bedspread! We stayed this past weekend at the Marriot City Center in Pittsburgh. Upon checking out I commented how comfortable the bed was. The gal said Marriot's beds are new and when you stay at a Marriot and see the white comforters, it means they are changed after each guest. She said they are the only hotel that does this. I love it!

Marriott. Sorry I forgot that second T.

Hampton Inn is also going with all white duvet covers and they are changed after each room change. I think it is trend we are now going to see with a lot of hotel chains.

Fodorite018 Jun 12th, 2006 06:03 AM

That is great news! I really do hope this catches on with other hotels. I was talking to a friend the other day, who does not read travel boards, and even she said that thinking about hotel rooms is pretty gross, lol! I will have to tell her this news.

We just stayed at a Radisson and they are all now going with sleep number beds. I know I am a minority with this - but I thought it felt like a very padded aero bed. It was very uncomfortable no matter how I adjusted it. I really hope that will not be a trend! lol!

cd Jun 12th, 2006 11:41 AM

Hampton Inn? How great! I hope this is a trend that catches on.

FainaAgain Jun 12th, 2006 11:46 AM

Oh, great! More less affordable lodging!

nina Jun 12th, 2006 11:48 AM

You mean they didn't change ALL bed coverings before?

Eeewwwwwwww.......

Suzie Jun 12th, 2006 12:02 PM

noname, you are not alone in disliking the sleep number bed. We had a sleep number bed delivered after what seemed like a comfortable bed in the store. I was surprised during my first night's sleep to find it was like sleeping on one of our camping air mattresses. We had them come and get it and give us a standard mattress. Couldn't get it out of the house fast enough. Slept on the couch until the new one came.

On topic - This is great news for travelers.

Most hotels do not change bedspreads and blankets after each guest. This IS a trend I hope catches on.

No_name Jun 12th, 2006 12:11 PM

Nina,
Hotels do change the sheets but the blanket and the bed spread usually do not get changed until really needed.

JAGIRL Jun 12th, 2006 12:16 PM

...Marriott NOW changes all the bed coverings after each guest...

What does that mean? Does it mean that maybe they didn't change...the sheets after each guest? :o :O =-o :&

cd Jun 12th, 2006 01:13 PM

JAGIRL
It's as No Name said, Hotels change sheets daily but have never changed bedspreads and blankets after each guest. Now, Marriott and I guess Hampton Inn does which is wonderful!

No_name Jun 12th, 2006 01:46 PM

You can always call down to housekeeping, after you check in to your room, and ask that someone come to change the blanket and bed spread.

hsv Jun 12th, 2006 01:51 PM

Kudos to Marriott! Another reason why I think that they have about the most reliable product in the market.

seetheworld Jun 12th, 2006 02:04 PM

The Hilton in lower Manhattan uses the white duvet covers too. Love it. Also love their flat screen TV. :)

No_name Jun 12th, 2006 02:12 PM

I would not be surprised if many Hilton products (hiltons, hamptons, garden inn, homewood suites etc.) all go to white duvet covers in the future.

rb_travelerxATyahoo Jun 12th, 2006 03:08 PM

You can be assured that the guest will be paying for the new service. It's really the wear on the bed coverings that have discouraged more frequent cleanings than the expense of cleaning itself.

Yes, some consider it gross that many hotels don't change coverings (other than the more durable sheets & p.c.) after each guest, but I don't think that it has been proven that anyone ever caught anything from them.

No_name Jun 12th, 2006 03:14 PM

Well of course the guest will be paying for it one way or another but it will be a perceived value of walking into a what seems to be cleaner room because of the white bed cover.

kswl Jun 12th, 2006 03:14 PM

Westin has been doing this for some time (at least 3 years) with their "Heavenly Bed" program. It was so popular that the linens they use are now for sale. We received a brochure the last time we stayed at a Westin resort (last year) offering them.

No_name Jun 12th, 2006 03:23 PM

The interesting thing here is that they claim they will change the cover after each guest but its probably a good bet that if they can get away with it as doing as needed, that is probably what will happen. I am sure there is not a housekeeper or executive housekeeper who is thrilled with this trend.

Malesherbes Jun 12th, 2006 04:12 PM

My dh went to white duvets when he did his Grand Hyatt Tampa renovation in '03. At the time he thought it was pretty novel, and it might have been, but now everyone's going that direction, including his new hotel here in San Antonio. And they too say the same thing..."change the duvet after every stay".

I beat everyone's trend...went to a white duvet on our own bed around '90. No one is allowed to sit on the bed though...and we still have it today. Hotel beds don't get the same care! I'm not yet sick of the look but I'll tell you, changing that duvet cover is no picnic--No_name may have a good point....and I'm not asking! :)

annesherrod Jun 12th, 2006 05:20 PM

I am staying at a Hampton Inn Suites right now on business and it indeed has the lovely white duvet cover. It is a GOOD thing.... to quote Martha!!!!

kswl Jun 12th, 2006 05:27 PM

We've had the duvet cover for winters for many years; switching to thinner white pique blanket covers for summer. They are washed weekly, but not by me--if that was my job I would probably go to a black comforter. =;

No_name Jun 13th, 2006 07:20 AM

Here is a gross thought. I just spoke with someone who has been in the hotel business for years (all different levels and jobs) and she said those ugly bed spreads are lucky to get washed 4-6 times a year. YUCK!

kangamom Jun 13th, 2006 07:25 AM

I just stayed at the Renaissance in Prague and the bed covers were so dreamy. It was such a comfortable bed with the duvets, I love this!

bjboothman Jun 13th, 2006 09:48 AM

Yep, I stayed at a Hampton in Dover, DE, last week and they were implementing their white duvet covers which were changed with each new guest. I will gladly pay for the "service".
