Marriott Mountain Side vs. Summit Watch
Anybody know the difference between the two properties? In terms of "newness", location, overall comfort, views...
We prefer to be close to the action, but also prefer higher altitudes (ie better mopuntain views). Which is better? Thanks!! |
Mountainside is brand new at the base of the slopes (chairlift right outside the door). It has GREAT reviews on my timeshare users's board. I gave up a unit here, however, to stay at Snowbird which receives MUCH more snow (over 300 inches per year more). Mountainside, however, would be the choice if you are a skier staying in Park City.

Thanks. Sounds like mountainside is closer to the mountain. How far is it to the city life (shopping, restaurants, etc.) Is there a free shuttle?
|
If you go to the Marriott Vacation Club website, and then pull up Mountainside, you should be able to get the answers you need. As far as proximity to "things", go to the Park City Ski Resort website and click on maps, it will show you where the Marriott is in relation to everything else.

Pal; you didn't say what time of year you will be traveling. The mountainside is just that, at the resort center next to the mountain. The summit watch is right at the bottum of main street in Park City. The mountainside is newer, but they are both great properties. We like the summit watch when we want to walk into town to dine, shop, etc. If you are going to ski in the winter, the mountainside would be a better choice. You didn't say if you had kids. The mountainside's pool is awesome! Have fun!

What about summer? What's better suited for a dad and a 14-year old? Access to dining, noise level, pool, outdoor stuff?
|
I would choose Mountainside for a Dad and 14 year old. Great pool area, easy access to the Alpine Slide and horse back riding. Yet it is still very close to town.
|
How far is it to restaurants? Are they within walking distance? The two will be there mainly for the cycling festival so easy access (by car) to deer Valley is also important.
|
There are restaurants and shops on the mountain and within walking distance and the drive to Deer Valley is just as easy from either hotel.
|
Thanks, Barbara, Now I'm stumped because just before I read your post, I made reservations at the Summit Watch after someone told me that the Main Street location was more convenient to walk to restaurants. May have to change this....
|
Ingrid,
Park City is a small town. It just doesn't matter much which you choose. The Summit Watch is ON Main Street which is where most of the restaurants are too. Also, shops and galleries. In winter, the Town Lift gives you access to the base of PCMR from Main Street. The Mountainside is at the base of PCMR and there are several restaurants right there too. Park City FREE shuttle buses can take you from the PCRM base to Main Street or to Deer Valley. They have bike/ski/board racks on the buses. If you want to walk between PCRM & Main Street, it's only about 3 blocks. Very pleasant in the summer, maybe cold in the winter. Have fun! |
So Dayle, which Marriott would you pick for August if prices are the same? Summit Watch doesn't guarantee AC, but I don't think that's necessary. Am I right?
Thanks, Ingrid |
Hi Ingrid,
Well I would choose the Summit Watch if it were me, but I don't have kids. The AC might be an issue. We've had some August days the last few years where it's 96 degrees in PC. (global warming) Unusually warm for us and it is very low humidity which makes it OK with me, but you might want AC if it's that hot. |
Doesn't it cool off at night? Why do you prefer Summit Watch? My guys want something within walking distance of "downtown."
|
Hi again Ingrid,
I would choose the Summit Watch because Main St. is more happening than the resort base in the summer at night. Yes, it cools off as soon as the sun goes down in the mountains, but your room might take a while to cool down. "Downtown" is Historic Main Street. Summit Watch is at the "bottom" of Main St. Main Steet goes up the hill a few blocks. "Downtown" is small. If I remember correctly, this web site has a town map: www.parkcityinfo.com. Have fun! |
Summit Watch it is. Thanks a bunch!
