Marriott in Kauai????
 

Is this resort nice? Is it run down.I wanted to stay at the Princeville but they say it rains. I get enough of that at home so thinking about the Marriott.... Any thoughts would be appreciated

Yes, I thought the resort was quite nice. The lobby and pool area are beautiful and the rooms fairly spacious. I also like the location because it was easy to drive up to Hanalei, and also easy to drive down to Poipu/over to Waimea Canyon. I don't know when you are going to Kauai, nor am I familiar with the island's rain patterns but if I had the choice between the Marriott and the Princeville, I would choose the Princeville. However, I did enjoy staying at the Marriott; instead, I visited the Princeville for lunch at Cafe Hanalei.

There are two Marriotts on Kauai. I have only stayed at the Waiohai which is brand new and gorgeous.

There are actually three Marriotts now as there is a newly opened Courtyard in Kapaa that was formerly the Coconut Beach Resort I think. The Marriott Waiohai in Poipu is less of a "resort" and more of a time-share condo complex. As Mary says it is very nice and new, but does not offer the services one would expect at a tradional resort like the Hyatt or Princeville.
If you are planning on going to Kaua`i in the summer, staying on the north shore would be lovely. The "rains all the time" remark holds more water (so to speak) in the winter months.

When we went to Kaua'i last summer, we stayed in a condo on the north shore and then at the Marriott Waiohai on the south shore. I loved the Marriott, and found it to be just as accomodating as "regular" Marriotts. The grounds are gorgeous.

Hi We're going to Hawaii for the 1st time in April,25th anniversary. we're staying on Waikkiki for 3 nigths,then on the north shore for 4 nights all with our older kids. They leave to go home and we have 4 more nights to sopend,we want to go to another island and I think we have narrowed it down to Maui or Kaui. I need help,we like to snorkle etc,but Hana sounds awesome too. any ideas???

Keli, the north shore of Kauai gets a lot more rain in the winter than in the summer. When it rains in the summer, it's usually at night or in short, warm passing showers during the day. The weather moves very quickly in Hawaii, we were on the beach in Kauai last summer and could literally look into the wind and see the weather coming--rain, then sun, then rain, and so on!
