Marriott Financial District?

I love the help I've gotten here! Does anyone know anything about the Marriott in the Financial District? Their prices are unbeatable, and I generally feel secure with the Marriott name. Thanks!

Bonnie,
You failed to mention the city.

Ted Jun 2nd, 2001 08:29 PM

I presume you're speaking of SF, correct?
The Marriott to which you refer is a generic business-type Marriott. Nothing flashy, standard amenities, predictable, efficiently run, good location.
Not much else I can think of. It's a Marriott.

Bonnie, you mean the Marriott in Manhattan? It is close to the World Trade Center, shopping, restaurants, the riverwalk, Holocaust Museum, subways, South Street Seaport, Chinatown, Ferrys to Staten Island, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

I know they have been offering really good rates, overall I would suggest it as a very good place to stay in Manhattan.

Assuming you mean NYC, here is the upside about the hotel:
It's a good hotel and is near the above-mentioned sites.
The downside: Don't be misled by the previous comment. It's a good distance from everything else (Times Square, theater district, Fifth Avenue shopping, Rockefeller Center, etc.) and is a very, very quiet area at night.

We stayed there and found it to be fine-But it is older and I don't think the rooms had been updated in awhile but the rates were great. It was on a weekend and that area totally clears out and at night the streets were empty. We found a Morton's to eat at and walked in with no reservations without a problem which would be unusual in Boston. Depending on what you want to do while in NYC I would maybe spend a little more to be closer to the action but if you were planning on World Trade Center and Statue of Liberty it is fine. We were able to take the subway and get to midtown with no problems- you could also take a cab but would cost more. Good Luck.

If this is the financial district in NYC, it quiets down quite a bit evenings and weekends. It could be difficult getting a cab from the hotel (to the hotel is not a problem) at these times. If you don't mind walking a few blocks to a subway, it's doable. But it would be a little inconvenient for the reasons the others have mentioned.

What you save in hotel bills will be more than made up in cab fares. The subway in convenient from the Marriott to midtown where everything is happening. But you may not want to use the subway at night. Cab fare between the financial district and mid town is at least $20 plus tip.

Cab fare from the hotel to midtown (Times Square) would around $10, not $20 and that includes a tip. Others have given you a good read on the hotel. Subway to Times Square would be in the 15 minute range. Area, as pointed out, is quiet at night. Walk the short distance over to the Hudson River and you will find lots of people and a sufficient number of restaurants. The easiest way to walk is through the World Trade Center and the World Financial Center - a pedestrian bridge connects both. Lots of free entertainment activities, day and night, in the area. Indicate dates you will be visiting and I will send you a list of things going on in the area.

Could it be that Bonnie intended for us to guess ... and if so, SF, perhaps, at 4th and Market Streets in the Financial District. Anyway, that would be my guess. IF Bonnie fails to respond, either a troll or the message was of no import.

Is it possible that a new poster could be sorting out a certain area, say, New York, and then when the post is made it shows up under United States, where I usually just browse? The poster could be seeing "New York" but everyone else is viewing it in a general United States environment. I don't think people are intentionally making everyone guess. Just a thought.

Been there several times -- nice but a little older -- less than a block away -- actually about 500 feet is the Marriott World Trade Center, which I prefer. It is not Times Square, but you aren't far from the South Street Seaport and other interesting downtown venues. You can hop a cab, subway or bus to Times Square.
