Hi acs1,
We were there last Feb. We enjoyed our stay very much. It is a lovely resort, my fella liked the golf, make sure you eat at Roy's, a must! Spa was great, I got a massage while he golfed. The pool area is huge and very spread out with little corners and curves everywhere so you don't get that crowded feel like you do at some resort pools. It has one of those lazy rivers which is great for kids as well as adults. Noraml rooms, bathrooms were huge though which was nice.
The only caveat---------pool service at that time was the worst I have ever experienced. You had to wait forever to receive a beverage and some days we didn't get any service at all. But that may have improved by now. It was a pain, but we laughed it off, and it didn't ruin our stay. I'd go back. I'd give it a 9. I'd give Roy's which is right at the resort a 10.
Enjoy.

Good choice! I just stayed there last night and although I didn't golf or use the spa, the hotel rates a 9-10 on my scale. The pools are great (even the adults had fun in the lazy river!) and you have to eat at Roy's - get the chocolate souffle dessert if nothing else!

The Desert Ridge shopping plaza is close, with movie theatre and "downtown district" with live music and restaurants to satisfy just about any taste.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The busiest 2 months here are Feb & March, so the first post might have something to do with that. Your stay in Oct is the first "decent" month after our sweltering summers (aka- low, or off-season) so you should be good to go at any hotel/location. Since Desert Ridge (and Kierland Marriott) are brand new hotels, I would bet the rooms are in great shape. As for where to stay, depends on what you want to do. Desert Ridge is a bit "out there" and not much around it, but does offer more of a desert feel with a couple amenities around it. Don't forget to look into Scottsdale, seem most everything is there, including the amount and choices of restaurants and activities. If price is a concern, you might still find some decent deals at the Princess, Hyatt Gainey Ranch (both awesome and the last being my personal favorite, IMHO) Try ordering a visitors guide from visitors bureau too. Have fun!
