How about Redondo Beach? Looks like it's just a bit further from LAX, but there are decently priced hotel options right in the center of things.
Thanks. |
Redondo doesn't look much farther on the map, but on surface roads it takes a little while to get there, and except for the parts right on the coast, it's pretty much Suburban Generica USA. Stay up in Manhattan Beach.

In the center of what things? If you want easy access to LAX plus a nice area to walk around and have dinner, Redondo wouldn't work as well as Manhattan. There is a pedestrian area (Riviera Village)of Redondo that is nice, but inconvenient to LAX, and a bit more staid than Hermosa and Manhattan. The areas closest to LAX (North Redondo) on the map do not have nice places to walk around. (Probably why the hotels are so much cheaper)

Just what I needed to hear. Thanks.

I second the recommendation for Mangiamo on MB Blvd. Though I would give it a more stellar review than the first one, especially if you're seated in the wine cellar. And the location can't be beat.

Manhattan Beach, definitely. Although it's an upscale area, in my opinion the people are generally more friendly and laid-back than in Marina del Rey. There is a really pretty, great little boutique hotel called Barnaby's (I had my bridal shower there) that has great food. It's on Sepulveda, just a few miles from the airport. They are doing some retrofitting, though, so call first with an update on that.
If you want a really special meal, go to Fleming's on Rosecrans. Not too far from Barnaby's, I had one of the best meals in my life there a couple months ago. Have fun! |
