Mardi Gras Museum vs. Mardi Gras World
I'm planning a visit to New Orleans the week of May 10 and would like to learn more about the traditions of Mardi Gras.
I have read good things about the Mardi Gras Museum at the Presbytere and also Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World. Since I am limited to three days in town, I will probably have time to visit only one of these attractions. Which should I choose? |
I have been to both, and think the museum is more interesting
|
I've also been to both, and I'd probably agree about the museum, but we really enjoyed Mardi Gras World as well.
|
I have not been to the museum, but enjoyed Mardi Gras world more than I thought I would. They have all the floats in a big warehouse with the lights on etc.. you can get some great photos and a slice of King Cake too.

I have a friend that is a tour guide. She has been to both & has suggested we bring our visitors to Mardi Gras World. They are similar but have differences. MG World will have actual floats & give you the feel of a current Mardi Gras. The museum will give you more of an idea of the traditions (costumes, history, etc).
They both should have websites. I would check them both out & then see which appeals to you most. The museum can be incorporated into your browsing in the French Quarter. MG World will require a bit more travel- across the river on the free ferry. The ferry ride in itself is different. I think you would probably enjoy either. |
