marco island marriott
How are the rooms at the Marco island marriott?
|
Excellent. The whole property is well-run, well-appointed, and well-cared for. We had a great four days there, but just don't look for much to DO -- it's definitely a place to relax and unwind.

Been There, Thank you so much for your reply. I wondered whether the rooms needed updating or if they were in good, clean shape. Did you have a gulf-pool view room? If you could kindly tell me a little bit more about the resort I would appreciated it. Restaurants? Sunsets? Weather? Thank you so kindly.

It's an upscale hotel, and they take good care of the place. The rooms were fairly large, modern, clean, and in excellent shape. Housekeeping stays on top of things and will come in a hurry if you need them.

Our view was of both the gulf and the pool (the hotel is constructed that way).

We went in October -- weather was great -- still warm in the daytime, but cooling at night.

The restaurant is fine -- I'm sure you'll enjoy the menu. And there are plenty of other nearby restaurants on the Island -- not to mention more in Naples, just north.

The beaches area little shelly, but some people like that.

Go here for more info and nice pix:
http://www.marcomarriottresort.com/

Have a great time!

I have been at the hotel the last two years in February. There are two towers, North and South. The first year I stayed in the North Tower - this year the South tower. My room seemed newer and cleanser in the North tower, this year's room seemed a bit more worn and the bathroom didn't smell and look as clean. Housekeeping is very attentive. I would probably ask for one of the newer rooms, although keep in mind the North tower is a bit further out of the way, longer walk. The rooms are large, colorful and very comfortable. They have a safe in the room, and a refrigerator. There is one of those mini bars which we never use because everything is so expensive.

There are 3 pools, all very large. The main pool is heated, the other two are not. There are fabulous tennis courts, great boating rentals, parasailing. On the beach they have palm shaded overhangs which is so wonderful. There are pool/beach towels that are large and plush. Definitely bring walking sneakers or sandals for the beach - very uncomfortable barefoot because of the shells.

It is a very relaxing environment. The lobby is spacious and airy. They have a bar and large screen tv.

Their restaurant serves on the weekends a fantastic brunch - with all the fresh squeezed OJ you want, omelette station, fruits, etc.

The restaurant Quinns is fantastic. They have a patio which is right on the beach. They have great lunches - salads, sandwiches.

The staff was all so nice and friendly. By the way, they sell at the pool a line of sunscreens and lotions that is so great.

When the sky is clear the sunset is amazing. Lots of people make their way to the beach for evening sunset.

It is a very relaxing place to be for a few days.

While there we ate at the Snook Inn - it was fun and very good. I loved eating outdoors on the water on a balmy Florida evening, listening to Jimmy Buffet type music. Everything I heard about it was how casual it was. It is casual but dinner prices were $20, although you can also get salads and sandwiches. Another incredible beautiful and delicious restaurant is Arturro's.
Enjoy
Dear Been There and Judi,
Thanks so much for all the advice. I am really particular about the room so maybe I should request a North Tower room. How bad were the South Tower rooms?
Last year we stayed at the Grand Wailea in Maui and the resort is gorgeous but the rooms needed updating badly. I tried not to let it bother me but it was quite upsetting for the prices we paid.
Also Judi how was the weather in Feb. Can you swim in the ocean in the winter and are there many waves?
Thanks so much for any advice you can give me. It is the first time visiting the southwest of Florida.
I would check if the north tower rooms are more recently rennovated or not - it may be by floors, not towers. The south tower room was not bad at all and I am very fussy! it just didn't seem as fresh, nothing was tattered or torn. I would say the bathroom was what I noticed to not be as sparkling and the room itself seemed a little smelly. It could have been really just a housekeeping matter. It is well designed - there is a toilet and sink in one room, and then other sink and vanity seperate.

I love the ocean and am used to New England 60 degree ocean temps in August so Marco water temps in the low 70s is the best. You ask about waves - there are none. The gulf side of Florida is calm, the atlantic east coast of Florida has the fun waves. So you trade off the sunsets for the waves.
|
Just to clarify. No, you can't swim in the ocean at Marco Island at any time. There is no ocean near it. Marco Island is in the Gulf of Mexico. And there are seldom waves at all.
|
Judi, Thanks again for all the info. I am from the northeast also and I am used to the waves too. We never been on the southeast coast of Florida either. I wonder if I am making a mistake by not going southeast rather then southwest. I appreciated the time you have given me, and will ask for a newer renovated room in case its different floor. Thanks again.
