March NYC itinerary with kids--review?
Sorry to add another itinerary for review, but you guys are the experts I trust! This trip is for my husband and I, and our 12 and 8 year old daughters... I'm a little concerned about the cold weather in NY, because we are from Florida (where it is FREEZING today!)...
Thursday, March 8th:
Arrive at 9 pm—Stay at doubletree guest suites in times square
Friday:
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Museum of Natl History if time?
John’s Pizza (what time to get there, to get to theatre on time?)
Spamalot at Shubert Theatre at 8 pm
Saturday:
Shopping around SOHO
Recommendations for lunch in SOHO?
TheMarketNYC
Roberto Passon for dinner
Spelling Bee at Circle in the Square Theatre at 8 pm
Sunday:
Maybe Ellis Island first thing in morning (?) or Staten Island Ferry
Walk across Brooklyn Bridge (if not freezing)—Grimaldi’s Pizza
7 pm: Top of the Rock (sunset)
Dinner with NYC relatives
Monday
Leave to go home

2 museums in one day is more than I can handle. Your kids will be excited to be in NYC and going into museums first off seems somehow unnatural. Both these museums are huge too. Maybe use Friday morning to get acclimated to NYC/Times Square. Go to Toys R Us and let them ride the indoor ferris wheel. Get discounts on seasonofsavings.com and go to Mme. Tussaud's Wax museum. Maybe hit one of the museums in the afternoon. Or maybe head downtown and do Ellis Island on Fri. At least you'll be out and about.
Have dinner at 6-6:30 or earlier to get to the theater in plenty of time.
For lunch in Soho, there are so many options you might just pick something you see that looks good. Since you're having an early dinner again before the show, don't eat too much for lunch. Jerry's is good diner food. http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...22&cuisineid=0
I also like the Broome St. Bar.

As I said, I would either drop one of the museums all together or do one on Fri. and the other on Sunday. Hope this helps and you have a great time.

Agree with McLaurie about two musuems in one day. But a nice substitute for a museum which is sure to be a hit with the girls (tho it's across the park) is a trip to Serendipity for some frozen hot chocolate (gotta try it despite the weather). It's at 60th and 3rd.

Whoa! Major sensory overload on day one.
Agree, I would spend day one just walking around, seeing the city, maybe the Doubledecker Tour Bus.
Big late lunch then Spamalot.
Saturday I'd go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, again, big late lunch, then theater.

If you decide to do the Museum of Natural History (one of my very favorites), be sure to see the new movie "Night at the Museum." The exterior shots are of the Natural History Museum, and many of the exhibits are similar themes. It should get them very excited about it!
