March in San Francisco?

Is mid-March a really bad time of year to visit San Francisco weather-wise?

Thanks!

I don't think there is any bad time of year to visit San Francisco.
You could possibly have rain, but you could also have pleasant weather.

We spent a week in SF in March several years ago and it was fine weather, with one day that was actually very warm and sunny, no rain at all. About a year ago we were there again in March and it was blustery and chilly every day, but with only one really rainy afternoon, a few cloudy days, and a couple of sunny days.
Go, and enjoy!

Thanks everyone. We have to visit the in-laws in Phoenix soon and I'm trying to finagle a "side trip" to California. LOL

Can you believe I have Never Been to California?!!!

Shoefly,

Even if it's raining (a good chance of it in March), it's rain with plum, quince and cherry blossoms in San Francisco. March is spring in S.F., the tail end of the rainy season, and everything is already green and flowering. I'd come prepared for a mix of weather and temperatures. A jacket that will hold up to damp and something for warmth that fits easily underneath would be ideal.

I was in San Fran last March and had beautiful sunshine and very mild temps. Perfect!

I love San Francisco. About the weather, you just never know. In most months of the year, it can change with turning a corner!

In March of 2006, I think it rained 28 or 29 days out of 31. Although, that was an usually rainy March. As Suze said, you never know with weather.

Whoa, Stu, you're right...I guess historically the first week in January is a bit risky. Although January 1st in SF was gorgeous this year.

Not to complicate your question, but the weather in the Bay Area varies by quite a bit. Will you be staying in San Francisco and what will you be doing?

I do a lot of cycling in the Santa Cruz Mountains in March and often the weather is great although foggy and cold in the early AM.

We took a hike over at Drakes Beach and I've never seen so many people there.

It looks like we may see some fine weather next week as well. Pushing 70 they say.

I've been to San Francisco twice in mid-March (St.Patrick's Day week), and both times had good weather. It's possible you could have some rain, but I would guess mostly a shower, but your likely to have some really good weather also. There's no way o predict weather, but I have alway found San Franciso to be a great time!

No. there is the possibility of rain, but there tends to be more rain now and in february than in march....
