Map of Manhattan-Suggestions?

The air and hotel reservations have been made. We're set for a first ever visit to Manhattan in October. Does anyone have suggestions for a good map. There are tons available in our Minnesota bookstores. I would like to have some direction as to who puts out the best.
Thanks in advance!!!!

I'm partial to the "Streetwise" series of maps. They're laminated and fold up easily.

Ditto to the "Streetwise" series. They include a bus and\or subway map, too.

Streetwise is also my favorite. If you are buying a guidebook, I like the Access series. They break the city down into neighborhoods and give short, concise entries of the most important sights, hotels & restaurants.

I love the MapEasy maps! They wouldn't be good if you were driving and needed really specific directions, but for a tourist they are great! They have every shop, restauarant, tourist attraction, and hotel on the maps so it's easy to find what you are looking for. I used one in Boston and it was great! They are also made out of a durable almost fabric-like paper, so you can't tear them or get it wet and you can wad it up in a ball instead of having to fold it exactly right. I love them!

The Streetwise for sure; it also identifies neighborhoods (SoHo, Chinatown, etc.). And there's a new Streetwise one for NYC called ArtNY or something like that; it identifies all the museums, galleries.

I personally like the MTA map (free and good for subways). I bet if you write NYC visitors bureau they will send you one.

Also like the 'free' AAA NY City map (they have 2; free to AAA members or a more touristy one for ~$3 or so)

Hagstrom makes tiny wallet-sized folding maps that I carry.

I personally don't want to be 'seen' with an open map in the city. [I know, it's my problem] So I actually create my own very basic one. NYC is very easy to know where you are - you just have to know where you want to be.
