Manzanita, Oregon Hotel
 

Planning a 2 night stay in Manzanita, OR in May. Having trouble deciding between the Inn at Manzanita and the Ocean Inn. Would love to hear first-hand opinions of one over the other. Thanks in advance.

Haven't stayed at either one but as you have probably observed from the websites, one looks to be directly on the beach and the other a little further back in the trees. Some people don't like the roar of the ocean all the time so might be better off in the trees. Others want to see, hear and smell the ocean all the time.... just a thought to help. Hope someone else has more to offer.<BR><BR>Sara

Manzanita's a long way from Atlanta; how did you choose it? I've not stayed in either of your choices but I don't think you can go wrong. <BR><BR>Manzanita's a nice, quiet little beach town with not much more happening than the (cold Oregon) beach scene and a couple nice local flavored restaurants. If it's too quiet for you, take the 20 minute drive to Cannon Beach, where it's about as exciting as it gets on Oregon beaches.

You're right, it is a bit of a hike from Atlanta. We're doing 3 days in Portland and 2 days on the coast. We did the same thing a couple of years ago and chose Nye Beach for the coast and really liked it even though it was pretty quiet. Cannon was a consideration, but wasn't able to find a nice, affordable place to stay that was both near (or on) the beach and within easy walking distance to &quot;town&quot;.<BR><BR>Thanks for your replies.

Inn at Manzanita is very nice, maybe a block from the beach and right on the &quot;main street&quot;. In Manzanita, that may be a good thing. The Inn is for sale . . . maybe you'll find a new calling.

Yes, if you have a spare couple of million dollars taking up valuable space in your trouser pocket why don't you just buy the Inn at Manzanita during your 3 day trip from Georgia?<BR>The weather on the Oregon coast is so much like Georgia you will never notice the change and owning and running a hotel is a great way to spend a restful retirement. 2 nights gives you plenty of time to make that multi-million dollar purchase as well.

Thought I'd post for the record that we were happy with the Ocean Inn. Unit 1 (where we stayed) is front and center on the ocean, unit 2 is almost as close. The other units aren't quite as oceanfront. Unit 1 was a nice little apartment, but we thought a bit pricey at $145/night considering the rest of the place was empty.

Enjoyed a very sleepy Manzanita, but were disappointed that both of the highly rated restaurants in town (one of the reasons we chose Manazanita) were closed the 2 nights we were there (Mon, Tues). Burned by my Frommer's guide again.

Did drive down to Oceanside. Neat place. Would definitely consider a quiet couple of nights there next time.

If you're looking for a great place to have breakfast, the Fireside Cafe can't be beat. Try the marionberry stuffed french toast. Nice, colorful ambiance with a woodstove going if the weather is very cool. **kim**
