Manhatten hotel help for 4 people this fall

Please help!! I am going this fall to New York and am looking to stay in Manhatten. It is hard to find a place that all four of us can stay that is on the cheaper side. I have found a few though-if you guys could give some input that would help a lot!! We are thinking about staying at the Penn Plaza on 215 W. 34th Street, or Manhatten Broadway on 273 W. 38th Street, or the Arlington Hotel on 18 West 25th Street. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Try Priceline... I bid $90 and it came to $106/night after taxes, at Club Quarters in the Financial District... I only checked off two-star for my requirement but ended up in a three-star... it was nice.

I was going to but Priceline can only guarantee 2 people occupancy. We have four. Thanks though!!

Hello Rebecca. I just went to NY with 3 girlfriends in July and we stayed at the Gorham Hotel. It's in midtown, had 2 queen beds a separate sitting area and a nice size bathroom (good room for all of us girls to get ready!) It was only $199 and split 4 ways, that's cheap! Not the nicest hotel ever, mind you, but no bugs and clean -- a quaint hotel, the owner welcomed us and checked us in.

Er.. First of all excuse my ignorance I'm not a New Yorker so I'm not too sure about the areas.. <BR> <BR>Anyway... Last Xmas we stayed at the San Carlos a block away from the Wardorf.. We found it was really safe area and was CHEAP! Apparently, it's termed more as a business hotel, but we found it very clean, and suited our needs perfectly.. <BR> <BR>Check out it out.. If its not considered Manhattan sorry don't shoot me.. <BR> <BR>http://www.sancarloshotel.com/ <BR>Hotel San Carlos 150 East 50th St. New York, New York 10022

I apologize about spelling Manhattan wrong. There is a post up here and I found out that I am one of those ignorant people!! Thanks Jayne-but for October when we will be going it is too expensive. Although is was in a very good location!! Same with the Gorham hotel-more expensive this time of year. Has anyone heard of the ones I listed: Arlington, Manhattan Hotel, or Penn Plaza?? Thanks!

Rebecca: I got an e-mail this morning regarding the Ameritania hotel at Broadway and 54th Street. I don't know much about it but the location is good. Rates on Quikbook start at $115 per night and include free breakfast. It was described as a no frills hotel. <BR>Higher up the food chain, is the Clarion 5th Avenue with rates starting at $139 on Quickbook but it's in an excellant central location and is a modern high rise that has gotten good reviews on this forum. Let us know what you finally decide on. <BR> <BR>Unfortunately not familar with the hotels you mentioned. In general the areas they are located in are not the best for tourists.

We also have 4 going in Sept. We found The Belvedere on Quickbook for $195 a night. I believe Howard Johnson also allows 4. The Ameritania does too. Again, the best rates we found were on Quickbook.com

Hi I live in Dc and go up to NY everyonce in a while. I've stay at really crappy hotel! be careful if you book on line! My favorite and a really nice hotel for about $150/night was the New Yorker It is location down town and very close to shopping, times square etc... I book on line at hoteldiscounts.com

What crappy hotel did you stay at? Let us know so we don't go there!!

Rebecca Aug 24th, 2001 11:26 AM

I should note that I found out that the Penn Plaza is now called Howard Johnson on 34th. Here is the link for this one: <BR> http://www.hojo34nyc.citysearch.com/1.html <BR> <BR>Then the Arlington Hotel is here: http://arlington.citysearch.com/1.html <BR> <BR>Those are the two I think I will stay at. Please let me know if these are in bad areas or too far away from anything!

Try the Pickwick Arms -- cheapest room starts at $65 a night last time I checked, and it's in a nice area. The hotel itself is nothing special, but it's clean and well-kept. <BR> <BR>Here's a review with contact info that emphasizes the super-cheap rooms (there *are* larger ones with private baths, though). <BR> <BR>http://www.manhattanusersguide.com/h...kwick_arms.htm <BR> <BR>-- Naomi

Thanks Frank for telling me about the Ameritania hotel. It is beautiful. But they are all booked up. Why are the hotels I mentioned not the best for tourists? <BR> <BR>Penn Plaza is now called Howard Johnson on 34th. Does anyone know this area? Or hotel?
