Everyone has Coldstone, Ben and Jerry's and Emack and Bolio's now, right? I still really like the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. It has atmosphere.

K_brklyn Jan 4th, 2010 11:16 AM

I was trying to think of an ice cream place in the West Village, that Emack's location is apparently closed now. There's also Cones and L'Arte del Gelato in the area.

Also Milkbar in the East Village is "interesting" try a sample of their cereal milk soft serve ice cream.

The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory has a good view: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant...cream-factory/
There will be construction happening in that area this year, they are building the new Brooklyn Bridge Park. http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/go.../the-park-plan

Yes I second Il Labatorio del Gelato and Grom. Good choices.

Also in the Chelsea Market besides L'arte del Gelato is Runnybrook or runnynose, runny something that is very good.

Also although it is a chain Le Pain Quotidien makes great brownies as does Fat Witch.

Not 'runnynose', lol! (Imagine the conversation: 'Can we please have some runnynose, ma?') It's Ronnybrook! It's a farm named after the founder's son, Ronny. There was a Ronnybrook milk bar in Chelsea Market. Here's the link:

You have time to request tickets to see a live show such as "Regis and Kelly," if she'll get up early without pitching a fit. Some teens would rather sleep than eat! :-) Also, many her age especially enjoy the NBC tour. If she's into the arts, the tour at Lincoln Center is very good, too. Have a great trip!

Goth in NYC.

2 bedroom apts. are not a dime a dozen and many private apt. rentals are scams or illegal. Trump is opening a new hotel with suites in Soho in the spring. Have no idea about prices. I think you need to stay midtown or downtown this time since you did the UWS twice.

mclaurie, I've stayed in two lovely apartments in new york. In fact, I've never stayed in a there.

One of my new favorite NYC blogs is PopUp New York, popupnewyork.com , and I think you and your granddaughter will really like it too. PopUp has videos of things to do around NYC so you can preview some destinations before deciding on your itinerary. The locations featured on PopUp are definitely geared towards teens and young adults (I think the girl who owns the blog is only 18) so your granddaughter should be able to find something that interests her. Also, the PopUp site tells you which subway lines to take to each destination, which can be very helpful for out-of-towners like yourself. I hope this helps!

wow vacationfan. congratulations on joining fodors. Since both of your posts seem to only be about a blog you "like" I wonder if maybe you haven't read the Fodors guidelines about NO ADVERTISING.

I've never heard of popup.etc. Has anyone clicked on the link?

Bookmarking as I'm taking a 17 year old to NYC this summer. Great suggestions!

<<It's the former estate of railroad magnate Jay Gould that was the setting for the Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows.>> Howard, thanks for posting that! I loved Dark Shadows back in the day, and I definitely want to see that - Goth or not.

321go, you could make a full day in the area of the Gould Extate by also touring the nearly Rockefeller Estate called Kykuit.
