Manhattan vintage dress shopping question
 

I might want to hunt down a party dress or "gown" from the 40s or 50s for a fancy wedding (in India).

Do you know any good places to look? And could you give a rough indication of price range for any suggestions? I don't require the cheapes but would like to guage what I'm going to go see.

What I really hope to find is something that is not short (but not necessarily to the floor) and that is vivid in color.

I imagine that NYC is chock full of cool, vintage-wear boutiques. Here are a couple that I have heard/read about:
