Manhattan roof top bars
 

We are going to be in New York city for a few days in June and wondered if there were any roof top bars that anyone knows of where <BR>we could enjoy a reasonably priced drink and get some good views.

The Peninsula Hotel in midtown (5th Avenue and...54th?) is the best rooftop bar I've been to...though the drinks are not cheap $7ish for a beer, the spectacular view is WELL worth it.

The Peninsula has a great Rooftop Bar. I live in the burbs, but my wife and I go there several times a year. Definitely not cheap, but reasonable for location. Even if it is raining you can still go to the bar inside, and enjoy the views. Have fun!! I think the enterance iso n 55th. I hear the restaurant Adrienne's in the Hotel is really nice.

I would also go to Tavern on the Green for a drink. It's beautiful outside in the summer. They also have music and dancing, and it's free.

Another option is the roof garden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the summer, they open their roof garden that looks right onto Central Park and the skyline of midtown. There is sculpture and a bar. Drinks aren't cheap (and you do have to get into the museum -- although the entrance fee is just a "suggested donation"), but it is a lovely way to end an afternoon or begin an evening.

FYI the Metropolitan's rooftop garden opens on May 1st. Great place.

Yea, I always love the roof top bar at Tavern on the Green. Almost as much as I love people who answer questions with answers that don't have anything in the world to do with the question. I'm surprised the answer was a place that was even in New York. Why not just tell us about a basement bar in Chicago?

For great views of the East River and the city, there's the Top of the Tower bar at the Beekman Hotel (1st Ave at 49th St.). Don't know how much drinks are these days.

For the Peninsula, if you walk in and don't know exactly where the bar is located and must ask someone, you'll want to be wearing all of your very finest, including your mink and heirloom jewelry. If you find out ahead of time how to get to it, just stroll in and go there in whatever you happen to be wearing, assuming your attire does not include jeans, sneakers, or the usual tacky tourist attire. Otherwise, you'll be told the bar is closed.

Sutton Place has a busy rooftop bar that attracts the young professional crowd. Packed to the gills on nice days during happy hour. Not that I would know, of course . . . . <BR><BR>Location: west side on Second Avenue between 53rd & 54th <BR><BR>

I know it's kinda cheesy and touristy, but we just got back from NYC and really enjoyed having a drink at the revolving View Lounge at the Mariott Marquis at Times Square. It provided excellent views of the city on a clear night. We enjoyed it.<BR><BR>

the Park restaurant/bar in the meat packing district has a great roof top bar. It's very hip, very "designed". The faucet in the bathroom is the big attraction, as is the comfortable sofas, and nice view. <BR><BR>It's in the VIP section though, so it's not easily accessible. <BR><BR>

I also vote for the Pen-Top bar in the Peninsula hotel. It is by far the best NY experience on a roof-top. It's both dazzling and romantic and night, especially when a soft breeze blows. <BR><BR>Here's how to get there. Walk up the steps of the Peninsula. Go through the revolving door. Turn immediately to the right and go past the bell captain's desk. You will go down two or three stairs; turn left. A few steps to your left will be an elevator. It will take you directly to the Pen-Top. <BR><BR>Remember, attitude is everything, especially at a place like the Peninsula, which is a bit pretentious (this does not affect the bar IMHO).<BR><BR>Also, I have been several times to the rooftop bar at the Park. It's not that great a not worth the trek downtown.

MAXIE -<BR>You are joking, right? I personally know a woman with "heirloom" jewelry that wouldn't be caught dead in it. Let me tell you...she will walk in to the hotel in blue jeans and go to the bar at the top! I doubt she'd be told the bar is closed. As most elite places know....you never know who you are dealing with. Give me a break. If they have the guts and the money to go to the top in blue jeans, sorry-I believe they'll be served! Especially with thier corporate platinum card!!
