Manhattan restaurant with a view from up high

Hi all

I am heading to NYC in the morning. I plan to spend the day with a friend and then Mon-Tues I have a conference to attend which is not far from Rockefeller Center.

I really don't know our plans for tomorrow yet but I'd like to have a meal or even a drink at a restaurant with a nice view from WAY up.

any recos? thanks...

hi Fly!

Drink: Mandarin Oriental - top of the hotel Time Warner center @ Columbus Circle. Drinks = pricey of course.

[How was Italy for you? Was great for us!]

Why not just hit the Rainbow Room/Grill at the top of Rockefeller Center? About as classy as it gets.

Agree with the Mandarin Oriental. Or the bar on the roof of the Ritz Carlton in Battery Park City.

IMHO Rainbow Room/ Grill is for the week before they car you off to the nursing home. (My parents and some friends - all 80+ went there and loved it - since it reminded them of their youth. My mother kept talking about Glen Miller.)

Since I've been to all three, The Mandarin Oriental for to-die-for views of Central Park and the Upper East and Upper West Sides. Plus you never know which celebrity you might spot.

The Rainbow Grille for views of Midtown, Downtown, and the Statue of Liberty.

The Ritz-Carlton for great views of the Statue of Liberty.
