Manhattan Parking
Hi, going to be spending this Friday night in NYC near central Park (Park Central Hotel), and looking for recommendations on where to park our car for 36 hours, arriving Friday am, leaving Saturday late afternoon. I don't mind parking out of the neighborhood and walking to the hotel. I used to live in NYC so know the city well. Any suggestions?
Not really interested in parking outside the city and training in. |

There's no need to park outside the city. There any dozens of garages near your hotel, where you'll pay about $45 per day for parking. My office building (55th between Broadway and 8th) has a garage at about that price, and it's 1.5 blocks from the Park Central, which has an entrance on 7th Avenue and 55th (the entrance directly on 55th Street is now a separate hotel within the hotel).

Sorry ... I should have added that a more convenient place to park may be the Port Authority, which offers parking directly from the Lincoln Tunnel, so you drive only a few feet on city streets and can go right back out the tunnel. It's about the same price (not cheap but certainly convenient, though a bit more than walking distance).

The Park Central is down on 7th Ave - not next to Central Park. And street parking there is not really possible. Either use their valet parking or park in thee Port Authority or a nearby garage (iconparking.com has a bunch).
Street parking is possible on the side streets if you head far enough uptown (parking on the avenues is limited by rush hours and in the lower streets (70s and lower 80s) there are meters on the side streets so long-term parking is not an option. If you park further uptown you need to consider the alternate side of the street parking rules - so have to find a spot on the correct side of the street so you don't have to move the car in the middle of the day. Given all this the few $ to park near the hotel doesn't seem onerous. |
Check with your hotel. They may have a discount rate with a nearby garage.
