Manhattan: Off the Beaten Path

If you could suggest something "off the beaten path" in Manhattan, for mother/son (7) to experience, what would it be? Not able to do Broadway due to finances...We loved Citicorp train exhibit at Christmas time. Any suggestions for Easter week?

bddkelso - Did you see the suggestions you got when you posted a similar question last week? Sometimes it can be hard to find previous posts, but if you click your name at the top of this page, or in this post, you'll see a list of all your previous posts. You got suggestions from a few people on that one. :)

Enjoy NYC!

I'm not sure I'd call it "off the beaten path", but the Intrepid is a great experience.
By the way, there are some good theatre deals off Broadway, including stuff that might appeal to him at a fraction of the cost. Look at the specials for off Broadway on www.theatremania.com or www.playbill.com
Of course, there's a lot there that WON'T be suitable for a 7 year old.

Go to the web site of the local news station - New York 1 News - and check out the family activites section. they always have listings shows/activities for kids - usually very inexpensive.

Thanks jlm_mi! That is exactly what happened. I looked for instructions on how to find my post after I searched for 10 minutes...I gave up and figured I must have been deleted or something. Thanks for all the suggestions on both posts! I'll report back after the trip.
