Manhattan Hotels at Modest Prices

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find a good, clean, well-located hotel in NYC for early December? I have exhausted every possibility. Many hotels have no rooms available for 12/3-12/5. I would like to pay about $150 per night. Is it possible to find a 3 or 4 star hotel for that price? The Beacon and the Milburn have no rooms available, and the Empire is no longer a hotel. Any other suggestions?

www.lastminutetravel.com

Has the Beekman Tower at $149/night (+ taxes) for a 1 bedroom suite your dates, a 4-star.

It gets great reviews both here and on tripadvisor. I'll be staying there in October, booked via the site above. (Others are offering the same dates for nearly $330/night.)

Unfortunately, even the low-end NY hotels jack up their rates in early December.

Nevertheless, I'd check out quickbook.com or express-res.com, both no-fee, no-penalty cites that have some of the best rates for New York hotels.

I just booked the Belleclaire for early '05. It is reasonable, the only hitch being that the room has shared bath. It's located on the Upper West Side, which is close to a lot of museums and Central Park. You can book it through Orbitz, Expedia, Sidestep, etc.

Also, you can check my other posting "NYC Hotels in Greenwich Village/SoHo" for the suggestions people gave me. I was searching for a place in your same price range.

Wow, busy weekend! Even the little Comfort Inn Midtown is 300 smackers a night.

I'd book something at PortlandSquareHotel.net right now, just so that you dont' get stuck without a room. It's a great location if you want Times Square, though it's old and bare-bones. And it's cancellable while you search for something nicer.

Thank you all for your suggestions--will let you know how I fare.

Have you tried Hotwire? That is one of the busiest weekends of the year in NYC and even low end hotels are grossly expensive.

We stayed last summer at the Days Hotel (Days Inn chain). It was about $129 on the weekend. Fine location, with convenient subway stops at 8th Ave & 50th St.

Definitely check quikbook. They'll often have the Helmsley Middletowne, a nice hotel that has lower rates because it lacks overhead such as a restaurant, will often be featured on that site for about $150-160. It's on the east side near lex (In the high 40s or low 50s), not too far from Grand Central Terminal.

bigtyke, big difference between summer season and peak season prices. I'm sure the Days Hotel is well over $300 for that weekend.

Lesli, I took your advice and checked www.lastminutetravel.com and we were able to book Beekman Towers at $149 plus taxes per night. Great suggestions, and you are right, that site has lower prices for the same hotels than other discounters. What do you do about parking when you are there?

Lesli may have a better suggestion, but iconparking.com has a garage at 49th between `st & the FDR which would be very close. It would cost $62 for 3 days.

Info here
http://iconparking.com/Garage_Details.asp

The hotel has valet parking for $27/day on weekends.

Don't miss the views from the bar/restaurant at the top of the hotel. Have fun :)

Glad my suggestion was of help!

I myself rarely have a car while in NY, so cannot assist re parking. But it appears you've received good advice on that above.
