Manhattan Deli and Pubs
 

Off to the Big Apple on Dec. 13 for 10 days. Our general location is 7th Ave. and 55th St., sooooooooo "Foderites", what are your recommendations for good/ reasonable delis and pub fare. So far you have not disappointed us.

You'll find delis & pubs on just about every other corner in Manhattan. Check out www.sheckys.com and ciysearch for more info.

The most famous deli's are Katz downtown on Houston and Stage Door Deli in midtown. Honestly any corner deli is always a good, quick meal and they're everywhere.

Manganaro's Hero Boy on 9th between 37th and 38th is AWESOME. My personal favorite is the prosciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwich. (Hmm, why did I gain 20 pounds when I worked in the city?) It's probably a 15-minute walk from your hotel, but it's an area of midtown that you might find yourself in, say, on the way to the Empire State Building.

And no worries, it's really hard to find a disappointing deli in NY!

There's a Lenny's on 48th b/t 5th and 6th. It's a chain of delis in NYC that I adore, but they aren't as classic as the Katz's, etc. Great, clean place to pop in for a sandwich, and they usually have really comfortable seating as well. My favorite BLT in the city!

You are a couple of steps away from one of the city's most famous delis, the Carnegie, which is on 7th at 55th Street. Although prices there are high for a sandwich, you will have plenty to take back to your room after your meal since they are so tremendous.
It is a classic NYC institution so I would recommend it to a visitor, although I prefer Katz's.

For bagels, baked goods, breakfast, and lunch, Pick-A-Bagel is on the corner of 57th and Seventh Avenue, two short blocks north of you. Very inexpensive and excellent food.

There is always a line but it moves quickly.

Their soups are also excellent and purchase at least a dozen B&W cookies.
