Manhattan Club - Opinions?

We have an opportunity to rent someone's timeshare 1 bedroom/2bath for a few days in New York City. Location is great - any experiences with staying there?

Is that the one on 57th near 7th Ave -- right around Carnegie Hall?

I recently stayed overnight at the Park Central Hotel and did the timshare presentation at Manhattan Club, which is attached to it and paret of the same property (it was originally all one hotel with two towers - one tower is now the timeshare portion). Rooms we saw were very nice indeed. The one bedroom suite is much larger and more usable space than the junior suite (which is like a studio apartment). Keep in mind that apparently not all of the junior suites are identical. Patrick (patash), a regular poster in this forum, recently commented on having visited friends who wre staying there and he commented on how small and poorly designed the room was - it apparently didn't have adequate space for laying out open suitcase (or there was inadequate drawer storage that required suitcase to be left out? can't recall which) Regardless, if location is the question... you can't do much better. It's in a good neighborhood and close to transportation etc.

Duh... I should work on my comprehension skills. Just reread the post and realized that you reference the one bedroom unit. I'd suggest calling the Manhattan Club and get verification that all one BR units are the same. If so and assuming that they match the sample room that we saw on out tour, you will not be disappointed. Keep in mind that in NYC apartments and hotel rooms are smaller than elsewhere but the unit we saw was adequate size and was VERY nice. I'd consider it to be equivalent to a hotel suite that would run $350-400 per day or more.

Thanks all - yes it's the one near Carnegie Hall. The person renting their timeshare to me tells me it has 2 full baths, so it should be the larger unit. In any case, when I call the Manhattan Club to confirm that the person I'm dealing with is an owner and has made a legitimate reservation in my name,(before I send the $$$), I'll check about the room size.

If it has two full baths it is definitely the larger type of unit.

If you're good at saying no and can spare at least two hours during your visit, consider getting the MC "pitch" and get the gifts. We ended up with two orchestra seats to Rent ($110 box office price and $90 if we'd been able to get them through TKTS). Because we agreed to move our "tour time" to the following morning (they were short on theater vouchers that day and asked us if we would reschedule), we also got the free lunch voucher and received a $50 gift certificate to Gallaghers Steakhouse. It's got a sort of 50/60's maqnly steakhouse ambiance but the food was great - they have a $20.02 lunch special that's as good as a dinner you'd pay $40 for elsewhere.

My mother does the Manhattan Club timeshare, and I can vouch that it's a very nice place. The rooms are nicer and more spacious than most hotel rooms in the city, and the location is very central to the park, 5th Avenue shopping, and Broadway.

I've only been in the common areas -- lobby, bar/restaurant near the top, elevators -- but it seems very nice. Hotel-type staffing and amenities -- doormen, bellhops, concierge, etc.

I know someone who has a share and he really enjoys it. Says it is well worth it to get himself and his kids into the city to take advantage of what it has to offer.

You can't beat the location, either.
