Manhattan Club NYC...Comments??

We are thinking of going to NYC in early June. We are considering The Manhattan Club. Wondering if you have any comments? We want something on the upscale side so if MC is not upscale, then pls let me know & we will stay @ a hotel instead. Also wondering if it is a good location for walking to theatre, restaurants & shopping. If not MC, then pls recommend a Hotel.

Have never been there so have no personal comment. Reviews are fairly good for a moderate place - not truly upscale per ratings. Location is reasonably convenient - but neighborhood is semi-business district plus some upscale shopping - so not a lot of outdoor cafes at night - as you find in more residential neighborhoods.

Can;t reco anything more upscale without knowing your budget - and if you mean something very pleasant - like the Sofitel - or truly luxe - like the Mandarin Oriental. (Both are in approximately the same area.)

Do a search on this forum for Manhattan Club and you'll get past responses, too. We stayed there and would go back. It was a two room suite with two full baths. Location was good for walking--across from Carnegie Hall. Not far from Columbus Circle, either.

Not close to Broadway, if that's what you're looking for.

Well - theaters are mostly west 40's with a few west 50's, MoMA is 53rd near Fifth and Bloomies is on the east side (Lex from 59th to 60th). So - no hotel very near all - but anything in the 50's/40's not too far east or west is walkable in New York terms (less than a couple of miles).

$500 will get you something quite pleasant but not really upscale (that more $700 or so and up).

You may be happy at Manhattan Suites - check out the mentions here.

If not - which are do you want to be closer to? Or are you wiling to walk? If the latter I would do the Sofitel - and not spend the bigfger $ unless you really want to splurge.

This morning a good friend was raving about Manhattan Club. She is very well traveled and used to the finer things in life. She loves it - admits there are fancier and more elegant hotels - but this is such a good location and it has everything she likes.

Also, a tip: if you call them directly they often have really good deals that they will tell you about. Probably not much for summer or the holidays, but apparently excellent deals.

If you want an apartment type set up, the Manhattan Club is a good option. The newish London NYC hotel is in the same general area and has a special on for $399/night but it's only good for certain nights. They also have suites and it's more upscale.

If you don't care about suites, the Michelangelo is in that same general area (west 50's) and very nice. Check prices on the hotel's website and also on
