Mandalay or Mirage
Traveling through Las Vegas in April for Homeymoon, wondered if people have stayed at both Mirage and Mandalay Bay,goods and bads and type of room you occupied. Really appreciate the help.

I've never stayed at MB, but know a fair amount about Vegas. My first question would be, is this your first time there?

Of the two, i would choose Mirage. Both properties are nice, with MB being newer, HOWEVER, the location is not prime, it's all the way at one end of the strip. If you plan on trying to "see it all" (even though you're on vacation), MB will get to be cumbersome from a logistical standpoint. Also, don't know your age, but MB is known as a mid-20s/early 30s place to "see, and be seen." (may be your style, but not mine)

I've stayed at Mirage (years ago) and it was GREAT. The location is EXCELLENT, and is located just steps from many of the "sites." I also recommend seeing the show Mystere (a bit pricey, ~$90/tix), and if you stay at Mirage you can order tix before the rest of the public (i think 90 days in advance). Any other questions, feel free to post.

I have not stayed at Madalay Bay either, but visited the property. I have stayed at the Mirage. I've said it before and I'll say it again. My "standard" room at the mirage was actually even nicer than my "standard" room at Bellagio. (OK, folks, don't get excited and say that I am "slamming" the Bellagio -- I'm just stating my opinion here on the rooms themselves.)The Mirage is a much better location if you plan to visit a lot of the other casinos and entertainment spots.

Stay at the Mirage. You will be where the action is. The Mandalay Bay is beautiful, but too far down on the strip. The Mirage is near everything.

We were married in Vegas and stayed at the Mirage. We go back every year for our anniversary but stay at the Mandalay! We love it there! True, it is far down the strip, but it's not like the strip is huge, everything is very accessible.

I've stayed at both and would pick the Mandalay Bay over the Mirage. Standard room at the Mandalay is larger (especially the bathroom), nicer and newer than Mirage. Mandalay also has some very good restaurants and a lively nightlife scene. I do like the Mirage also but I would say that the only advantage that the Mirage has over Mandalay is location.

I've stayed at both. The rooms at Mandalay Bay are nicer...better bathrooms, better furnishings, service is about equal.
Mandalay's casino is more to my liking. Larger, more open and luxurious feeling.
Restaurants and pools at MB are definitely better.
The big downside with MB is location.
If it was midstrip, it's be the best overall resort value in LV.

Hi,

I stayed at the Mandalay Bay for 3 nights in early September .The rooms are very large with ceiling to floor windows. The bathroom is very large with separate bath and shower and a separate wc.They provided bath salts, cotton buds and even a tothpaste kit. i had a room on the 23rd floor (37 in total) facing south overlloking the pool/beach area( magnificent although some pools might be shut in April - I'd check) and the airport although I am a fairly light sleeper but I heard nothing from the airport.
Restaurants are good, the Buffet is very good and the Shark Reef is good.
One slight problem was the occasional longer than normal wait fro the lift but there was a convention on.
Another problem is that the main hallways are partially tilied so there was the occasional click clik of luggage going between carpet and tile.

The Mirage pool looks very good , there is a free white tiger exhibit the mian secret garden and dolpphine area is $10. Buffet is also very good. The mirage is in the centre strip and closer to the action although from Mandalay Bay you can walk to the Luxor or take the tram to Excalibur.

Have a great time!

I, too got married in Las Vegas and stayed at the Mirage. My wife absolutely loved it. Service was excellent. Rooms very nice. I don't see how you could go wrong at either hotel. I did find that the MB is somewhat more isolated. Unlike Vic, I did not care for MB casino at all. It is way too stuffy for my tastes.
