Mandalay Bay vs Paris
We will be in Vegas in April 2004
We have it narrowed down to these 2 choices. Leaving out the pools which would you choose and why. The price is similar within a couple of dollars Thanks |
You'll probably get more people who will say Mandalay Bay, but I would choose the Paris based solely on location. I like to come out my hotel onto the strip and be able to walk left, right, or across the street, and the places are nearby. A convenient location for walking is important to me.

Mandalay - better restaurants, better bars/clubs, better service, less phony theme, better tables, better sportsbook, smells better, shopping mall will be open before April, tunnel to Luxor
Paris has better location, better buffet, more replica monuments, tunnel to Ballys It really depends on what you plan on doing while there and where you plan to travel to outside of your hotel. |
I stayed at Mandalay Bay last April and really enjoyed myself. The casino was very friendly for a beginner and the bars/clubs/restaurants were among the best of any casino we visited. Check in/out can be a long process and the location at the bottom of the strip may put you off but it really should not as the resort is excellent.

MB has better rooms, better restaurants (by far), nicer casino, classier feel, more to do (and of course dramatically better pools)......but Paris has a far superior location. Your call. Depends on what's most important to you.
|
I would also choose the Paris. Other travelers have said to ask for a "P" room, which is large and has a nice view of the fountains. There is a tunnel to Ballys, and Aladdin is on the other side. Much easier walking distance to other hotels. MB is very far south. The restaurants, although nice, are probably quite expensive, because they know it's inconvenient to leave the hotel and walk someplace else.

M.B. is superior in every respect except for location. I also found the Paris casino to be smoky, which bothers me, so I didn't want to spend much time there.
Good luck. |
I choose Mandalay Bay as well..Much nicer hotel..but of course way out there..so if location is important, i would say paris, but for a classier hotel experience, Mandalay Bay..and its really not to bad for location, the Tram will leave you off by New York New York..and there are buses you can take as well...

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Basically what I am getting is that if Mandalay Bay was further up on the strip, there would be no question and most people would pick it over Paris. |
If you've never been to Vegas before and want to look around, go with Paris. It's in the middle of the strip and close to everything you'll want to see.
Mandalay is nice but it's the last property all the way down at the south end. |
If location is not an issue, Mandalay Bay leaves Paris way in its dust. A much, much nicer resort all around. But al is right: For your first time in Vegas, you should stay in a more centrally-located Strip property-- and the Paris wins. It's not a dump after all-- it's just a hokey-themed mid-level resort whose overall luxury level doesn't equal that of MB. The restaurants in MB are of a very high level-- if you like deluxe Chinese, Shanghai Lily is an outstanding eatery.

I agree with al and rjw - Mandalay Bay is a nicer hotel than Paris. If price is similar, MB wins hands down. If you plan on spending a significant amount of time at the property you're staying in, then go with Mandalay Bay. If you plan on walking up and down the strip everyday, visiting all the hotels, then maybe Paris may be a more convenient choice.

Mandalay Bay it is.
Thanks everyone |
ga,
GOOD CHOICE..you will be very happy!..The pool at Mandalay bay is voted #1!!! Let us know! Have a great trip! |
We just returned yesterday from our first time in Vegas, Loved it BTW. For our first 3 days we stayed at Paris because of the location. It was a fun property and I liked the Casino the best, because it felt like you were in an outdoor environment. On our retuen trip from visiting the Canyons and Sedona, we stayed at Mandalay Bay. Nicer property, more expensive restos, decent bfast buffet and a GREAT pool! Slightly bigger rooms, more complicated layout. I agree with the others, Paris for location, MB for physical property. Judy :-)
