Mandalay Bay - Vegas

I have a reservation at Mandalay Bay for end of March. I would like to get some feedback from anybody that has stayed there-I have a 5 yr old daughter. I thought it might be nice for her to enjoy the beach.

Thanks!

Assuming that the weather cooperates: It might be nice for her but this is a fairly hot singles/young adult place. It is not IMHO a kid place. For example all guests (kids too) must have their own room key to enter. MB is a place to go to see the hard bodies.

Now certainly there are some families and middle agers there as well but not the majority.

End of March weather is iffy for swimming. I suppose it is possible that the pool/beach area may not be crowded due to this.

That's my experience, good luck!

LV is mainly an adult place, but I think Mandalay Bay will be fun for you and your daughter. When I've been there, the place is full of conventioneers with families. The pools/beach look great to me. Make sure you also take her to the Aquarium there too. Next door is the Luxor with its IMAX movies she might also enjoy.

You wouldn't let her wander around without you or take her out late at night, right? And you do realize that she cannot stand beside you when you gamble?

last year the pool/beach area didn't open til the 2nd week of April. It was so crowded, we were all very unimpressed with the place.

I seriously doubt that the weather in March will be good for swimming. We've had a REALLY cold winter so far - it even snowed (and stuck around for a whole day!) 10 days ago. March isn't usually warm enough for swimming, even when our winters are warmer.

Also, Mandalay Bay IS the place for the singles and young adults to congregate. But it's up to you where you take your daughter.

We were there the 3rd week of April last year, and the weather was hot. The beach area is very crowded-its actually wall to wall chairs, so there is no room to play in the sand. There was plenty of room in the wave pool though, and the waves were very tame. Most of the kids were over by the lazy river. This area was not as crowded, and the kids seemed to be having a good time floating around on the tubes.

About the pool area. Does anyone know if they have a set opening date? and does that include all the pools or are a couple open all the time?

Second question...We are a family of 4, but I only registered as 2 adults. I think it is rediculous to pay $35 extra per child per night. How much do they "police" the fact that each person entering the pool area must have a room key. Would one adult entering with 2 childred be asked to see 3 room keys?

Here is a link to info regarding the pool along with an air view. Looks like only one pool is open until Memorial Day.

We went to Las Vegas in April, 2003 and stayed at the Tropicana. The Trop had a nice heated pool and it was too cold/windy to enjoy it. If your staying at the Manadaly Bay for the pool in March, you may be disappointed.

Some of the nicer pools will require a room key to get in. We've stayed at the Trop and Flamingo and had no problem getting into the pool area. However, if we wanted towels, drinks or food we had to show the room key then. The Trop ran the key card through a computer to see if it was still valid.

MB is known to have THE toughest pool entry requirements. It would not suprise me if they required your kids to show a key. That being said, I have only been there during busy season and my teenagers were required to produce their own keys even when they were with me.

When I stayed at MB, there were kids all over the place in the pool area. It was actually one of the things I did not like about it (sorry - no offense to those with kids). But I agree that the end of March is very iffy. Based only on the number of times I've been to Vegas at the end of March to beg of April, I'd say that there is about a 60% chance that it will be warm enough to lay out at the pool. I don't know about swimming. If the pool is heated then maybe but if it's not, then I don't think it will be warm enough.

MB is great for children. I'v etaken my 2 there for the past few years and they had a great time. They love the pool and lazy river - although for a couple of years my youngest was too short for the beach (there is a height requirement).

Yes you do need a key for each of your children. To get into the pool area, you must pass through a gate. At each entrance there are attendants that scan your key card (and your children's) to make sure they are valid and you are currently guests in their hotel. Honestly, be glad they do this - everytime I have been it is so packed with guests that if they didn't do this and people came in that weren't staying there no one could ever find a chair!

We are also staying here the end of March. I sent a note to the hotel and received back the following response:

We have reservations for March 26 through the 30th. Do you anticipate that the wave pool will be open then?
