Mandalay Bay pool policy

Hi - I will be staying at Mandalay Bay the first weekend of May. I have other friends staying at Treasure Island during the same weekend. The folks at MB have told me that non-guests cannot use the pool, even for a fee. Does anyone know, as a practical matter, whether there is any way to get non-guests into the pool area at MB? How strict is the policy? Thanks for the info.

Hi,

At the Mandalay Bay ,it is quite strict with each guest ( even children) requiring to have their room key. The attendant then puts each key into a reader ( like the door lock) to dertermine if it is a valid key ( ie the guest is staying at the MB ) so an old room key would not work.

I'm not sure if MB sells pool passes with a Spa day pass ( $30 i think)

Regards

Thanks for the info. Do you think there is any way to use the same room key twice, i.e. "pass" the key somehow through a fence or something? I know this sounds shady, but if my friends can't get in, then I'll probably just book a room w/ them at Treasure Island so we can all hang out together.

Yes,I would just pass the key through the fence. They will prob never catch on to that.

Requiring kids to have a room key? I'm sorry, I have a hard enough time trying to keep track of MY key, now I have to make sure my 6 and 7 year old active boys have theirs?! I can't believe that - and hope it's not true, we have reservations at MB for part of Spring Break in April.

It's true. I forgot my room key and had to go all the way back to my room, get my key then wait in the long line again. My wife had her key and they still wouldn't let me in! It's prob a good policy or the pool would be over crowded with non guest.

I guess I'll be staying at Treasure Island then, unless I can convince my friends to put up the extra bucks to stay at MB. The pool is very important to us...how's the pool at TI? I know it's not as good as MB, but is it decent?

jeeze. tell your friends to cancel TI and stay at MB. Gimme a break. You're on vacation and you've got to pass room keys through fences? Please.

I hear ya. Unfortunately my friends aren't in a position to spend as much as I am on the hotel, so I have to respect that. I was just hoping they could pay a fee to come over and enjoy the MB pool because I've heard good things about it. But I'd probably be happy at TI too...it's not like TI is a dump or anything, right?

Yes Alice, it's very true. And of course you know they charge extra for more than 2 persons in a room - alot extra! - no matter their age.

That I know. We get 2 adjoining rooms, but still have to pay extra for one because it's for the 2 kids + nanny! I still can't believe that about the keys for kids - there must be some age limit!

TI is not a dump, but the pool is not the greatest. It's a small pool, and a small pool area. Since you're saving on the room (if you move to TI) I'd suggest renting a cabana at the pool, that way you and your friends will have your own area, and won't have to fight to fight chairs together.

Don't try to sneak your friends in the MB pool. They really do police the key thing and you're likely to get caught.

Thanks for the advice...I will definitely heed it! Who knows, maybe my friends will be able to find a good deal at MB between now and the time we go, so we can all stay there and use the pool as guests! Thanks again for all the info. I really appreciate it.

I have a feeling prices are going to go way down in a couple of weeks.

Hadencat, most hotels that do sell pool passes charge big bucks for them. Cabanas are usually over $100 a day.

MB is very strict on their pool entry - there is a tall fence with bushes that surrounds the pool - you can't even see in. They don't even allow people just to walk in and take a quick peek at the pool - I try every time I go there, and they don't let you in without a key.

No comparison between the two pools. Mandalays pools are considered the best of Vegas and their popularity warrants the strict adherence. As important as this sounds to you hopefully your friends can swing the difference. ALL of you will appreciate it and will eliminate the hassle, not to mention the distance between the two hotels.

So concerned with getting something for nothing. Pay attention to the rules.

maybe there is a reason my idea hasnt came up, but what about "losing" your key? I wouldn't be surprised if MB charges for extra keys but maybe its not that much where they can pay for them. You also said you have two adjoining rooms so you can do it twice. Just an idea...
