Mandalay Bay or TheHotel??
Hi, we are planning on doing spring break in las vegas in 2008 with our two teenage daughters. I know the pool is for both properties, but wondered if it was worth the extra $70 a night to stay at TheHotel? Is it just that it is a suite or do you know of other things that make it a lot better?
Thank you |
We've stayed at thehotel twice; the second time, my inlaws were with us and stayed at Mandalay Bay. I did not see their room, but they came to our suite and marveled at how beautiful it was.

Don't know anything about TheHotel. We stayed at MB a couple of years ago and it was excellent. Room was great and the pools were inviting. have fun where ever you go.

I stayed at both a couple years ago. The Hotel is nicer and newer and trendier. It has a plasma tv but no High Def, and all the rooms are suites which is nice. They also have 1.5 bathrooms which can helpful when traveling with a group. MB was decent but not spectacular when I was there. The room I had was a little worn, but clean and comfortable. I think check-in and elevators at The Hotel are much better. Elevator lines in MB can be bad on weekends. If you think you'll spend a good amount of time hanging out in your room (not sleeping) then it may be worth the extra $$ for The Hotel. Otherwise I'd recommend staying at MB and blowing the $$ at the blackjack tables.

We stayed at TheHotel for 3 days in July. We had made our reservations for 2 standard rooms at Mandalay Bay and requested adjoining rooms. At check-in there were no adjoining rooms available so, (with minimal complaining from me) they bumped us "up" to TheHotel which we thought was a very luxurious suite: beautiful furnishings, 1.5 baths, 3 flatscreen tvs (one in the bathroom), wetbar, lots of drawer/closet space. When we were there it was a 110 degrees and we had kids with us so we spent alot of time at the pool, which is a good walk from TheHotel (farther than Mandalay Bay) so that was a drawback but there were people walking all over the place carrying their innertubes. The pool area is fantastic. Self-parking is very easy from TheHotel - just get off the elevator and out the door. I've never stayed in a MB room, but have heard good things about it from close friends which is why we made our reservations there in the first place. The one thing about the MB/TheHotel I didn't like was the lack of kid-friendly eating places. Seems all the restaurants were high-end $$ and my kids (9 & 6) don't even eat their (my) moneys worth at the buffets!

A couple years ago, my mom and sisters did a Sunday to Thursday stay at the Mandalay Bay, the week before Easter. The place was swarming with families. We could never use the pool--I am not saying there were no chairs--there was not even a spot on the concrete or grass to lay a towel. We even tried their private adult pool--no room there either.
We had a wonderful time at the Mandalay Bay and I have wonderful memories of my mom (who has since passed away) dancing at the end of Mama Mia, but our plans of relaxing by the pool never happened. I am sure the casino was very happy. |

I thought their 24-hour coffee shop restaurant would have been decent for kids...not extremely cheap but casual |
Just realized re my post above, you might have been referring to a kids menu....good point.
It's been years since I've been to Vegas, but somewhere towards the back there was a bunch of restaurants in a row. ....some were expensive but one is a burger place. The burgers aren't cheap though, I think one of the selections is kobe-style beef and is big money but keeping the kids in mind I thought I'd mention it. |
jlkids this will be my dilema when I go back to Vegas, which to choose? I've stayed at both and I still will have trouble which to choose. While I thought Mandalay's rooms were nice TheHotels suite was far superior with of course the size, bathrooms and tv's. Although it was faster to check into TheHotel with no convention like feel I hated the feeling of being in a basement but who cares about that. The only negative I have about TheHotel is the distance to the pool.Like a previous poster stated about the pool it gets very crowded. You have to stake out your louge chairs early. Would you get 2 rooms whether at MB or TH? Could you get away with just 1 room at TheHotel? Good luck with your decision. Have a great time!~
