Mama's just for a drink?

Hi--
Do you have to eat at Mama's to check it out? Can you stop there for a drink on your way back from Hana to Wailea? Or is the drive back from Mama's to Wailea too tricky after just one drink?

Would love to experience it, but have two teens (who like expensive food!) and don't think I want to splurge for a dinner (or even lunch, if it's that expensive) for four.

Thanks.

Yep, we did that. Two mixed drinks, a soft drink, and two appetizers - $88. We enjoyed the atmosphere though.

Most definitely stop for drinks/appetizers or drinks/dessert. We stayed at the cottages at Mama's, so we checked out the restaurant several times. We actually enjoyed drinks/dessert better than the dinner. I know this is not the popular opinion, but I would not spend the money on dinner there.

The non-alcoholic punches at Mama's were great! I think the one called "Mama's Punch" was my fav, but they also had a great drink made out of coconut milk and mint. Try at least one non-alcoholic drink while you're there (my friend and I tried 4 different ones between us!).

I would recommend dropping by for a glass of ice water then heading somewhere else for drinks & apps.

$88??? Wow!! ((b))

Is stopping in for a drink or dessert acceptable in most restaurants in Hawaii? I would love to visit A Pacific Cafe for the Chocolate Volcano dessert! Maybe Roy's for the Choc. Souffle!

Wow! $88 was not what I had in mind for a drink and appetizers. What DO entrees cost there?

Thanks for the replies.

Is there an A Pacific Cafe open in Hawaii? I met the chef on a recent visit to Vegas, ate there twice, but busniness wasn't what it should have been. Can you remember what drinks and apps you ordered? I imagine $88 is with a decent tip....imagining$15 per drink and app leaves us at$60 plus $5 for softdrink? Wow! And folks, we went for lunch years ago which is not really much more affordable.....it is a landmark though, and not to be missed if you can ignore the price and enjoy!!!

Leave the teens behind and make it your romantic night out. Have a Mai Tai and apps and watch the sunset on the beach.

That menu is only a "serving suggestion." The actual menu changes from day to day and meal to meal, based on what that day's catch is, what produce is in season and available, and who is in the kitchen. Prices will be driven by market values. Figure about $35-40 an entree, $12 and up for salads, pupus and desserts, $12-14 for cocktails. The last time I had lunch at Mama's and paid for it, it cost me about $150, with drinks, salad, entree and tip. Lunch prices are npt much cheaper than dinner, we just tend to order less, forego the wine and dessert, the apertif, etc.

Mojitogirl, any comments on the cottages (they call it the Inn now) appreciated, considering that as a three-night stop on that side of Maui.
Thanks;)

We went to Mama's for lunch and there was nothing on the menu for less than $25. We had a lovely meal and enjoyed the view.

Why not drive into Paia (5 minutes from Mama's) and buy a wonderful sweet treat at Moana or the little bakery on the corner of Hana Highway and Baldwin, drive back and eat it on the beautiful public beach in front of Mama's.
