Go on a weekday morning if you can. I was at the Mall of America 6/12 & 6/13. (Saw "the wedding" Saturday afternoon - an amazing piece of Americana!) The Mall has over 400 stores and 100+ kiosks. There are many chain stores: Victoria's Secret, Sears, Nordstroms' Bloomingdales, etc. which you can see at home. Walk past them and check out ones that you don't have.
One interesting shop is an independent called the Life Place (first floor on a side corridor between Macy's and Nordstrom, I think quite close to FAO Swartz) Some unusual products for people who have unusual challenges, plus different lines of cards, audio tapes etc. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Word of warning about eating: if you are there at dinner, plan to eat very early (5 pm) if you want a restaurant; otherwise plan on fast food. There is a nice bistro, The California Cafe which has a restaurant plus a perfectly acceptable bar that serves pub grub - had a great shrimp pizza with pesto for one there.

I was there 2 different days for a total of 7 hours and did not see everything! Good, inexpensive bus service from airport (6 or 7 minutes away, not by accident!), and most major hotels. Whoever coined "shop till you drop", then created the Mall of America!

Have fun!

I live in the cities and the Mall is the best thing to happen to Minneapolis as far as I'm concerned. It really is a great place to explore and shop. But don't miss the aquarium show on the first floor - it's great too! Have fun.

Wear comfortable shoes. If you have kids, plan an extra day to see Camp Snoopy and the Aquarium. Eat at Wolfgang Puck's Pizza on the third floor of Macy's. Its the best bargain at the Mall. Wear comfortable shoes. Macy's has the best sales. Nordstrom's just opened their "discount/outlet" store on 3rd floor. Wear comfortable shoes. Ride the "Wild Mine Ride" at Camp Snoopy (no matter your age) even if you don't do anything else in the park. And did I mention? - wear comfortable shoes.
I have been serveral times. It is great for shopping, but don't go looking for anything in particular. I have found take a weekend, arrive on Fri. afternoon, walk around every floor, just to see what you want to see the next two days. Then do the more serious looking the rest of the weekend. Eating in the well-known cafes, you will have a long wait, if you choose Planet Hollywood, go when it first opens, and waiting is minimal. There is a food court. There is a restaurant in camp Snoopy, I think in the NE corner, by the Mine Ride, that is sit down, and reasonably priced. Kids likesd it too. As far as a place to stay, we stayed in the Red Roof Inn in Bloomington, and it was very nice and reasonable, and the Embers right next door to eat. You don't need a lot to do if you are going to shop!! The mall isn't that hard to get to. We parked across the street from Sears, and walked over, no hassles!! Have a great time, take some time to "People Watch.!"

We've been there several times. We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites which is walking distance from the Mall and provides breakfast with
your stay. We enjoy the Italian restaurant on the first floor and Rainforest Cafe.
Rainforest Cafe is lots of fun and has very good food and lively atmosphere.
