Malibu Seafood

Friend is flying into LAX next Thursday night at 6:38 PM. (carry on only) Can we get up to Malibu Seafood in time to eat and watch the sun go down? I'm figuring no more than 30 minutes to drive there... is that right? Any favorites on the menu? TIA!

I think you can do it, without traffic, it should maybe 40-45 minutes. I assume you know its a shack, with great seafood, not a fancy place at all. The fish and chips and fried shrimp are always fantastic, but I think all the fish is good, fried or not. Cole slaw is pretty good, and delicious fries. It's so funny, I might actually be there that night, I live in the area, and am meeting a friend who lives in Malibu, and we often choose Malibu seafood. If you see 2 families of 4, with 2 teenage boys, and 2 blonde girls around 11, say hi. Have a nice meal, I hope you get there before sunset.

Thanks Bikom... I know it's not fancy... looks perfect for a casual evening... I'll keep an eye out for you! :) Anyone else going to be there that night?

Oh, I wanted to ask, how is the grilled fish with rice or whatever? I'm not so fond of fried foods... anyone else who has been there who would share? Thanks!

Does the plane arrive at the Gate at 6:38 PM? It could probably be 15 min. to get off the plane and through the terminal to the street at arrivals. Do you plan to be at the curb with motor running : )?
I think it would at least be a 45 minute drive at that time of night from LAX to Malibu Seafood, as it takes us 30 min. to get to SM at work traffic time. It will be a close call for a sunset view, but at least you will be at the beach and enjoy the view as you drive there.

Yes, as a matter of fact I was going to wait at the curb... but now that you mention it... I might as well go in and relax! :)

Sounds like we'll have time to eat at least before they close... so we'll head North and see what happens. Could always have a late supper when we get to Santa Barbara.

Thanks for the dose of realism!

Made it to Malibu Seafood on Thursday night at 8:25 and they still took our order with a smile! :) I ordered the swordfish and my friend had the halibut... it was just okay. Great place to stop... kinda fun...maybe should have just had the fried stuff that everyone recommended. We greatly enjoyed the evening but it wasn't because the food was spectacular.

Moneygirl, I was hoping you would post about the time you arrived at MS. Was the plane late getting in, or was it traffic that was bad getting to Malibu?

Did the rest of your plans go ok?

I took the PCH south ( Highway 1) so I could find the restaurant on the way down... and there was a fairly involved accident just north of malibu and another one IN Malibu so the traffic was horrendous.. and I got to LAX just in time to pick up my friend... the flight landed on time, with no carry on luggage, and traffic was pretty much stop and go all the way into Malibu. It took evey bit of 1 1/2 hours to get there! No sunset, but I live at the beach and can see that every night... plus we were headed to Santa Barbara for beach time the next day... so not such a big concern. Nice place to stop actually... gets you out of LA and away from the typical freeway restaurants. It was fun... great mix of people... I would go back but next time I'm having the fried shrimp and fries like everyone else! ;)

moneygirl, I'm sorry I didn't see your post when you first were asking! In case you go again, the thing to get is the *tuna burger*. My friend in W. Hollywood drives up there just for them... I haven't been to SoCal in a few years, but I still remember how good they taste! :D
